Be strong in the Lord (Kids Armor of God study)

We are studying the Armor of God, and the very first verse in this paragraph of Ephesians tells us to be strong in the Lord. So we are looking deeper into that before moving on with the Armor.

Ephesians 6:10

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty Power.

Did you know that this isn’t the only place in the Bible where it tells us to be strong?

Deuteronomy 31:6
Joshua 23:6
2 Chronicles 15:7
Psalm 27:14
Psalm 31:24
2 Timothy 2:1

What does it mean to be strong in the Lord?

The Bible not only tells us to be strong, it also tells us how!

If we look at Deuteronomy 31:6 it tells us to be strong and courageous for God will never leave us. So we know that to be strong we have to trust God. Psalm 62:8 also tells us to trust in him at all times.

When we look at Joshua 23:6 it tells us to be strong, and to follow the Law of Moses which is the ten commandments. So we know that to be strong we must know and follow God’s law with out compromising. Psalm 78:7 is another good verse that says something along the same lines. It tells us to put our trust in him and keep his commands.

When we look at 2 Chronicles 15:7 it tells us to be strong and not give up, so we know that to be strong we must have patience and never quit.

When we look at Psalm 27:14 we read that we must wait for the Lord and be strong. So again, the patience thing. We need to wait on the Lord patiently and trust in him.

Psalm 31:24 tells us to be strong and take heart. So we need to love God and others because that is what God wants from us.

2 Timothy 2:1 tells us to be strong in grace. We know that we are saved not by works, but by grace. This is important to remember so that we are not self condemning. Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us that we are saved by grace. Grace through faith, it isn’t something we can do on our own. Strength in the Lord is the same way. Grace is important.

Nehemiah 8:10 tells us that the joy of the LORD is our strength.

And Isaiah 40:31 tells us that when we put our hope in the Lord he will renew our strength.

So what does it mean to be strong in the Lord? It means to trust God, to know his word and follow his commands. It means to be patient and endure hardship without giving up. To love God and others, and to acknowledge God’s saving grace. It means to want to make God happy. To put our hope in him.

Where do we get this strength?

If we keep looking at scriptures we see in Psalm 31:2 that we are turn to God for our strength, he is our strong fortress.

In Psalm 140:7 we know that God is our strong deliverer.

Acts 3:16 tells us that faith in Jesus makes us strong

Romans 1:11 tells us that spiritual gifts make us strong

1 Corinthians 1:8 tells us that Jesus will keep us strong

1 Peter 5:10 tells us that God will make us strong

So where do we get this strength? It comes from God. It comes from faith in Jesus! 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 tells us that by ourselves we are weak, but in our weakness Christ will make us strong. For his power is made perfect in weakness. If we are trying to be strong by ourselves, we can’t do it. We need Jesus.

Why is this strength important?

If we look at 1 Peter 5:8 we see that the devil is like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. We need to be strong so that it isn’t us. Remember Daniel in the Lions den (Daniel 6). God can protect us as long as we are strong and trust him to do so. In Matthew 21:21-22 we see that anything is possible if we believe and have faith in Jesus. And Philippians 4:13 tells us that everything is possible through him who gives us strength.

Mark 3:27 tells us that no one can enter a strong mans house and steal from him if they first do not tie up the strong man. So if we are strong in the Lord it is harder for the devil to come in and mess up our paths. It’s harder for him to deceive us.

Again in Luke 11:21 it says that a strong man fully armed can guard his house. So we know that we need to both be strong in the Lord, and wear the full armor of God to protect ourselves from the devil stealing our joy.

Wow, that's great Heather, I feel stronger already. It amazing how built up we can get when we read someone else journey in the scriptures.

Thank you so very much for sharing.
