Facing the facts finally!

Hi everyone! I was diagnosed 2 1/2 yrs ago after the birth of my 2nd child. I really should have been diagnosed years ago but that's another story for another day. I have not been in denial about having Lupus but I have been VERY passive about it. It's time for me to really learn about this disease & what I can do to help myself. I had my baby boy in September & during my pregnancy I didn't take any meds for the Lupus (I was on Plaquenil b4 that) About the 2nd week of December I started to ache & now I'm in more pain than eve b4. In Novemeber my Rhemutologist gave me a script for Meloxicam/Mobic which helps but is not lasting all day now. (Have an appt next week)

I just read something about people avoiding certain foods...what is that about? What foods? My resolution for 2010 is to inform myself on this disease to better help myself. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I have heard from several people who have Lupus that they cut out any "processed food" and all preservativies from their diets and they were able to get off all their meds. I have been trying to get to that, but I live in the country and it is difficult or really expensive to but all my food that way. I am trying.

Sadly for me, alcohol is probably the worst culprit for setting off a painful episode. And after a day with the kids and work and the house etc. I really look forward to a glass of red wine. But then I am sorry I drank it.

Hi Adela, gosh you sound exactly like me..I was not in denial but didn't really do anything about the disease until about a year & a half ago i got so sick with the disease it nearly killed me so since then i have been on steroids & immuran plaquenil anti depressants etc etc. I have put on 45 kgs in this time from the sterroids as well. . I guess what my point is just take care of yourself & speak up when you know there is something not right with your body. If i had done so i don't think i would've got as ill as i was & still recovering. If your doctor or specialist don't listen to you go to someone who will, as know one knows your body any better than you do.This disease can affect you in some many different ways no doctor or specialist can know everything that's going on. Mine still don't know exactly how to fix me yet..Very frustrating but just know you are not alone.. :o) I am always here if you ever need to chat even just to have a winge & moan as no one really understands if they don't suffer from the disease.

Take Care
