hi i'm a 45yr old single mum and have 4 children, 2 boys age 27yrs and 13yrs and 2 girls 23yrs and 2 and a half. my youngest daughter has downs syndrome, she is the light of my life and keeps me feeling young!! i dont really feel any older than i did when i had my 1st son (although the wrinkles tell another story!!) i love being a mum again at 45, yes it is hard work having a teenager and a little girl with downs syndrome but its worth it and i wouldnt change my life 4 anyfin!! are there any other mums in the same position as me?

I'm 47 with a 3year old. I had her when I was 44. There are pros and cons to everything. The pro's are usually at this stage in life you are more settled, financially secure and know who you are, have more patience. You can really enjoy being a mom, not that you don't at any other age, it's just different after 40. I personally feel that I'm past the age where my dedication to being a mom competes with my own personal ambitions.
The cons are you don't have the same energy level as you did in your 20's and 30's, at least I don't - you will be raising a child in your 50's and will probably still have them living with you when you are 60 and what I find to be the most challenging is that it's hard to find other "over 40" moms with little ones to hang out with.

i dont think your crazy, i would love another baby!! i know it wont happen as i havent got a man in my life plus realistically it wouldnt be fair on either keeley or the new baby as keeley does take up a lot of my time with therapys and hosp apps. if your at all worried about havin a child wiv downs syndrome due 2 ur age, i know theres a higher risk (supposedly) but on fb most of new friends wiv downs syndrome children had them b4 they were  under 30!!!!  i woz a week away from my 43rd birthday wen i had keeley, i had a perfect pregnancy, felt well, the birth woz so easy, she is a beautiful, happy healthy little girl and shes doin so well, shes not alkin yet, but we're gettin there slowly!!  i didnt have any tests done wen i woz pregnant as i didnt want 2 no, didnt want the risk of losin her and i knew it wouldnt make any difference 2 me if there woz a prob. only you no how u'd feel if there woz a prob, downs syndrome is not the end of the world, in fact its a start of a whole new 1!!! so i'd say if u want another baby go 4 it!!!! x
