I just turned 50 and have a boy who turned 6 in January and a girl who turned 4 in December. I adopted them both (great neice & nephew) June of 06...they were 2 1/2 and 6 months. It happened really quick and as much as I've always wanted children (9 uteral and 2 ectopics) this was very overwhelming. I didn't and still don't have much of a support system. I literally had to call my friend to p/u a crib for me as I drove to get them. They arrived with nothing but names and not much else. There were no showers, or well wishes, most of my friends kids were entering college or long gone from the house and they pretty much was not in the "kid mode". Although family, I don't know much of what they had been through. I come from a family of nine children and have been around kids all my life, but I really had no idea of how to deal with the special issues these lo's had. At six months I took my dd to the ped. b/c I thought she was having seizures...they said no, it's just w/e she's been through..he was 2 1/2. I have been to so many websites and so many organizations trying to find the help that he needs. I finally feel that I am on track with getting him the help that he needs, and she doesn't seem to have any lingering related issues. Even though it's going on 4 years now, I still am looking for some support, but now it's more for me. I'm hoping that this site will provide this. I have much more to share, but don't feel that now is the time. If you think that you may be able to reach out and help, I would so appreciate it!

Hello ladies - I am new to this group - I am 59, a mother of 2 (34, 36) and raising my grandson since birth and he is now 14. Plus I have been a pre-school teacher for 20 some odd years so that give me about 300 or so children under the age of 5 that I have "nurtured and help raise). I think I have been thru ever cycle there is out there. Retured now - I just wrestle with my teenager, bi-polar daughter (his mom) and my little granddaughter who was born at 24 weeks ... but is 2 now and is wonderful. Sooo, if there is anything I can help with - or you just want to vent and get some "sage" help - I will always be glad to help out. Having young ones at our age is tough ... but it is an experience that you are blessed to be having. I'm glad to be joinning this group.

Hi all! I am 42 with an almost-21 year old daughter and 2-1/2 year old son. It's amazing to see how much has changed in 18 years; everything from baby gear to parenting advice is so different, things we didn't think about twice back then are now considered detrimental or downright hazardous-- how did we make it through the first time?
