What do you do to stay active with your little one(s)?

Being an older mom, I KNOW I don't have the energy I had when I was in my 20's. Not only that, but I'm carrying a lot of extra weight, so that slows me down too. I'm working on the weight issue (scheduled for gastric bypass surgery next month and I've started going to the gym again), but I'm just curious ... with all their energy, do you do anything special to model an active lifestyle for your child(ren)?

Great question. I'm 49 with a 4 1/2 yr old daughter. I need to lose weight and don't have the stamina I had when I was younger. But I want to remain active for her. I don't want her memories to be of an "old boring mom". LOL She loves her swing set so I make time to push her on it and we go for walks in the neighborhood. Most of the time she rides her bike. When she was littler, I would pull her in her wagon. Other than that we go swimming as much as possible in the summer. I try to teach her good eating habits. We talk about healthy foods/snacks.

Quoting Pamela:

I am more prone to share non active moments with her. She loves books and music. So we read a lot, craft together, and sing a lot. I also am overweight; two years ago I lost 30 pounds and was eating right, I definately had more energy. I need to get back to that. I also have bulging discs in my lower back so I am restricted from some activities. I do as much as I can physically. The treadmill and exercise bike are calling me right now, "dust me, use me, please".

Hi Pamela

I was reading your post I see you also have a disk problem in your back. I have a L4 & L5 disk which slows me down a lot.. I am also over weight. I try to walk a little each day when my back isn't bothering me I find going swimming is easy on my back and my kids love it. In the summer we play a light game of soccer, basket ball, we go to the park a lot and we go camping. The only time I find it really had is running after my two year old when he gets away from me. I just want to cry because sometimes my back hurts so much. Another thing that slows me down is lifting my son he is 30lbs now. So he is a big boy and heavey.

I sure enjoy when my son naps I have a nap so when my older son come home from school I can make time for him.
