Update:

Since my last post, I graduated with my BA in Management in Nov. 2010 from American Military University (subsidiary of APU). I am in my last week of class at University of Arkansas and graduate next week but walk in May with my MS in Operations Management. I managed to complete this degree in 1 year although it was 15 months because I took a semester off for a cruise and other family time. I start my Doctoral program in May with Northcentral University. I want to teach college so that is why I am getting Doctoral. I am working part time at the moment but have worked full time while going to school at another time. I am starting to look for full time positions but am enjoying working at a school so I am off when my children are off. My husband graduated (he works full time rotating shifts as a police officer and instructor) from Columbia Southern University in August with a BS in Criminal Justice Administration. He is now on his 5 th and 6 th classes at American Public University in his MA in Criminal Justice Administration.

Advice for online degrees is to make sure your school is Regionally accredited (not Detc) and time management plays a huge part in your success! Good luck to all of you!

I came across this post - my daughter is looking to go to school online for early childhood education. We've determine that either Ashford or Penn Foster have what she needs. I'd appreciate any insight/thoughts/opinions on any of these schools.

I am trying to decide between Kaplan University or Phoenix university. Not sure which one I'd like better....I'm a stay at home mom with an 18 year old going to a community college and a 15 year old going to Keystone national high school online. I was one to hate school!!! So I'm pretty excited about this online college stuff! But I'd like something challenging but fun! Ya know? And I sometimes worry online school could be too hard. Is it pretty hard honestly?

Hi Katie, I graduated from an online college called Kaplan University with my Bachelor's degree of science in Health and Wellness. Now I am about to start my dual Master's degree in Public Health and my Master's degree in Business at Benedictine University in April 2012. I found that online college is better when their are small children, health or work in the picture.

Hello, Katie. I completed my master's degree online with Grand Canyon University. I chose this university because I went on campus for undergrad, so I knew most of my professors. Online schooling provides the same benefits as on-campus programs. It is the student that puts in the effort, not only the university. I always tell people who ask about he value of online programs this one question: "Would you hire someone who went on campus and graduates with a gpa of 2.0, or would you hire an online student with a gpa of 4.0?"

I'm with the University of Phoenix and love it! Everything in the program is online (Healthcare Admin.) and has been so much better than sitting in a classroom listening to lectures all the time! My kids love it because I am home and my oldest son and I can sit together at the table and do our homework together. I'll be done in less than 2 weeks with my second degree and I'm contemplating whether to enroll at Ohio U for their Master's in Healthcare Admin. or to try for another degree altogether.

I think that this is the best for me becasue Both me and my three year old daughter have seziure disorders and traveling is hard to do sometimes and getting much sleep is even harder. I love the work at your own pace and what hours you want thing about it.

I am a mom of 2 and I attend University of Phoenix online (Axia) I have a year left before I get my Associates in Business Management. I was going to the local Community College but my breaks and my kids breaks were different. It is soooo much easier going to school online. I am able to attend more functions my kids have and also help in their classes for parties and such.

I am studying at Athabasca University. I am finishing off my Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting Major (4 year Honours). I am hoping to be finished in March 2012. My little girl is 20 months old. I was going to a traditional university (York U) when I found out that I was pregnant. This is the best solution for me. I get to stay home with my little girl and I don't have to travel to get to my classes so evenings are easier. She prefers Mommy to do bedtime not Daddy (lol)

Hello. I currently attend American Public University and I will graduate in November with my BA in HR management. I have attended University of Phoenix and Penn State both online. I loved Penn State however they are very expensive compared to some of the other schools. My husband attended those as well and is currently at Columbia Southern University. Both his and my school have grants for books so no undergrads pay for their books which has been a big help.

I am looking to start my Master's level degree in January either in person and online at U of Arkansas or I may go with Capella or U of NC at Pembroke as their online program is good as well. I'm not sure yet but if I work at U of A I get a 90% discount on tuition for myself and 50% for hubby and kids. However, I love my part time job at the school district since I am now off all summer which is the only way I am able to take 6 classes this semester to finish! I enjoy being off with my children since my youngest started K last year. In August they will be in grades 7, 3 and 1. Our children are learning the importance of education through their dad and I. He works for the government and is in law enforcement. Education helps with promotion in the government.

I go to Wilmington University. It is tough juggling school, wrk, baby, and just everyday life in general taking online classes. I just finished up my first year. I started when I was pregnant and ran into several road blocks on the way, but i got over them and plan to continue. I've never done traditional classes but would like to try.

U of Phoenix is great! I have a 14 month old and am pregnant with my second, and they are being totally awesome about my schedule. I am also a military spouse and they have helped me work my schedule around PCSing. I am also taking an LOA from school after my new one is born and starting back into school with less classes until I get back into the swing of things. Plus- I get great financial aid!

I'm actually doing full-time at a community college (Mohawk College), but I've taken an online course because they didn't offer what I wanted in the school. It worked out well for me, but it took awhile (like 8 weeks) to get my marks when I was done.

I got my Associates Degree from AIU Online. I have attended Ashford University and Indiana Business College, and I am currently enrolled at Grand Canyon University working on my BA in Business Administration. I personally think that online school is a bit more difficult than traditional classes, and I am thinking about going back to my local college to finish up my degree program since it has just become a 4 year college. Congrats and best of luck to all the moms who are in school trying to get an education. It is certainly not easy to do when you have kids.

Hello everyone, it's so nice to read about the accomplishments everyone has obtained, especially with all the various tirals and issues of life we encounter. I have been so encouraged by reading about everyone's successess. I am a single mom for over 21 years, I have a 21 yr old in his second year at community college here in Atlanta, GA and I'm in my second year of online courses at Liberty University (Yayyy FLAMES) located in Lynchburg, VA. I am going for my BA in Psychology-Speclializing in Christian Counseling, but God willing I'm going to further my education afterwards for a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. I love taking classes online, I probably have the attitude I have because I realize that if it were not for the priviledge of online courses I wouldn't be able to get this degree. It's been challenging but I don't allwow myself to think about doing it any other way, I'm here so I'm shooting towards the finish line. I pray everyone here excels in their courses!

Am in my last class (woooohooooo!) at National University! I will graduate at the end of the month with a BA in Global Studies! I have been working on this for almost 2 years and it is way harder than anything I would have thought going in. Having said that, it has also been the best decision I have every made. Good luck in your studies!

I know that online classes require alot more discipline because we held more accountable. I also think it depends one the requirements for the college, discussion boards etc.

Hello all! I am currently enrolled in Capella University working on my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy, Yeah!

I have a lot of friends going to college locally, and my oldest is in her first semester at the local community college - is it just me or do online classes require a LOT more work than physical, old-school classrooms?
