Most people think he is just white but he is half black - his father is pretty dark and I am very pale. Just a couple people said he has a tan but thought he was Italian. His eyes are blue at 8 mos. and his hair is brown. Only way to tell he is mixed are his nail beds are brown on his fingers and toes. Anybody else have a very light skinned half black baby who people can't tell they are mixed? Or it is just me? I've seen many mixed race babies and young children and they tend to be shades darker than him, even at his age. Only saw one that looked just like him - hair, skintone - in person. Thanks.

I know this post is old. But I have Three kids and their father is half black half white..my son looks white with mixed hair texture, my middle daughter is darker with reallly curly hair and the baby girl is white too with my hair texture. I just had a new baby boy and his dad is a light skinned black man and my son came out with red hair and blue eyes...hes pale like me. and he wont really accept him because of this. Sad really....how did this happen? I love him of course. but how did my kids by a half black half white man turn out darker then my son with a man who has a two black parents? Genetics are crazy

Did you have a baby because lately it seems like everyone wants a tanned baby. Or did you have a baby to love. Who cares what color it is. And if it came out light and darn near white. Then you have to thank your great great great grandfathers due to slavery, black people are a mixed people here in America.

When you have a baby the can take genes from 5 generations back on either side. I have a friend who has green eye burning red hair and pale as ever and has African American parent. Not mixed but somewhere in her genes some one dabbled in another gene pool you could sy.

To Tamica Jordam, I just want to tell you that your son looks actually really beautiful and special. I don`t know what it is that throws people off, but I am sure that he has a good chance to make his dreams come true.

My cousin looks really similar, btw. But her hair has more of a reddish-golden hue... And her eyes are just huge and really really dark brwon (actually nearly black).

She is Italian/Indian, though. Her mum gets asked all the time whether they adopted their daughter.

I am the proud mom of biracial children. My youngest 4-year old Tony is eager to become a model. However his appearance throws people. I haven't quite figured out the confusion because I am clearly African-American and although he does look different it shouldn't be at all confusing.
With all the multi-cultural and biracial children in the US we as a nation should really stop trying to divide our children and force them the choose between either their mom or dad, it's really cruel.
So he's biracial that just means he's ultra special

I have five bi-racial kids. My daughter, which has a twin brother, is very light. She has curly soft hair (like a white girl) and she has very little color to her skin. Her twin brother on the other hand has brown skin. He's twice her skin color. Also, her other brother's and sister is darker than her.

My husband is white, I am black. (My hubby is german and scot-irish, and I am cherokee, white and black on my moms side and black on my dads side, so I consider myself black since that is what I have the most of--if you saw me you would say I was black) My first born son is very light skinned. I know white people who are darker than him, he doesn't even really tan all that much. Alot of people think he is spanish, some people think he is egyptian. He is 13 now- and still has no african american features whatsoever. My daughter (his sister) is a little darker than him, but she has "mixed" hair and more african american feautures, you can tell she is black.

I realize this was posted 3 years ago, but I am just seeing it now haha. My son is 13 month and 1/2 Puerto Rican. I am caucasion of course, and my skin is fair, but not pale. Up until our son was about 7 months old, he had very blue eyes and then they started to tint to a light hazel-green. His dad has very dark features (black hair, brown eyes, very dark skin, but not black). We were shocked because our son also has dirty blonde hair (like me)! My boyfriend jokes and says that he can not be his kid because his features are so light. Our son's skin is a little bit darker than mine, however. Outsiders just think he is a tan caucasian baby! I guess things like this can happen!

100 years ago people were racially divided between Native Americans and White Americans of many different cultures with many different genetic traits. As these races mixed and merged the children of these many cultures became Americans. Now the children of these latest "Americans" are finding themselves merging and mixing with African Americans and many other cultures of dark skinned peoples who are themselves coming to America and becoming Americans. We are a great melting pot. The more we focus on what we have in common and less on what sets us apart the more united we can become.

I feel the same way about my daughter! But i love her no matter what, I think it's just a natural feeling tho =) I have had a few people make comments and tell me that they would have never thought she was mixed! I never really thought anything of it until people made comments to me about her saying how light she was... Your son is too cute by the way!

Im mixed race.My mom is a pale spaniard and my dad is black/an creole and people ask if Im middle eastern, italian, greek etc.I was very light my whole life with curly wavy hair. My mom was pale as well and my dad was carmel skin color. Genetics is funny like that. Many don't believe me when I reveal my ethnicity to them. Shocked even.My husband is very dark african american and people think im caucasion. The way I explain it to my kids is people come out differently and thats so god can make the world interesting. It would be boring if we all looked exactly the same.:)

My daughter is white and black and get dad is pretty brown-skinned, but she is VERY light. People don't know she is mixed a lot of the time. They'll ask my husband if he is her dad right there in front of her and I! My brother and his wife have 4 kids that are half black and half white and they are all differentshades and all darker than my daughter! I think every mixed child is different. I am very pale, so I guess she takes after me, but she has her dad's feature and really curly hair, so we look at it like she got the best of both worlds; parts of each of us!

I'm black, but sorta light (I've been asked if I'm mixed--I'm not) and hubby is white. Both kids look completely white with blonde hair and green eyes. My daughter is 6 and her hair is starting to darken to more of a dirty blond/light brown. It is also very curly. My son's hair is still pretty straight at 21 months. Not sure if it is going to change. I love my children dearly and think they are both beautiful, but is it wrong that I want one brown baby?

hun, take it easy, they come in all different shades, i have two sons and they have the same dad and one looks white with a tan and the other is mostly black. just think of it this way, your furture gradkids are going to be dark , if he marries white they could have a totally black babie, or if he marries black then they could have a totally white babie. trust me you can never guss what they will look like and don't try, they are buetiful either way don't stress he will darken as he ages. don't raise him to be black or white just his self not a color . i raised my without a color and they say there name not a race , we are all african twelve gen's back anyway. My boys hate when someone calles them black or white they go off and say there name. We don't belive in race , my husband is black and i am mixed 75/25 white ,black, does it really matter in the end, he will be how you raise him. race is a touchy subject and he will decide for himself when he gets old enough

Hi Jen -
Your child is adorable! I can tell he is mixed, but aren't we all these days? LOL. I don't think of my daugher as mixed; I just think of her as her, the unique individual she is.

It is kind of fun to think about, though. My niece, who is half white, half Nicaraguan has blue eyes and a blond afro!

Genetics are so complicated. I know a woman with three beautiful children, same set of parents and one is deep tanned and black hair with dark eyes, one is pale with very light blond hair, both of these children have straight hair like their parents. The other daughter has curly red hair, and the brightest green eyes. Her complexion though is very deep, not pale. I don't understand how it all works and anything and everything does come up from past family members genes.
My mothers family are all blond with blue eyes, except my mother who tanned very easily, had very dark but soft curly hair and dark brown eyes. I have the same coloring as she and yet my kids are super fair skinned and burn easily with light eyes. Go figure.

If one was to just go off of my son's complexion they would probably not think he is my child. I used to get a lot of looks when he was a newborn because he is so white but he definetely has my nose. His father is white. He got his fathers light brown hair and my dark eyes.

Eileen, I don't think she's saying there's anything wrong, she's just asking if it's like that with anyone else's child. Of course it doesn't matter of the skin colour.

its so funny...how genes work! My dad is jamaican and indian and my mum is also mixed but my sister came out whiter than white with green eyes straight brown hair with natural blonde hair here and there, my brother looks black/white mix and i look sorta portugese. My gran(dads mum) often commented abt my sis not being my dads child...but she was a nasty person. Often if a child from a black white parents comes out really fair then the black genes show more when they hve a child. my eldest son is very fair with extremely light brown eyes but my youngest is very dark compared and they hve the same dad who is nigerian.

[deleted account]

My son has pretty much the same skin tone as your son, if not lighter. Mine just turned one, his eyes are still blue and his hair has gone from dark brown/almost black to a light brown/almost blonde in some spots. It just depends whose genes were stronger and in this case ours apparently were lol. It does seem like lots of mixed babies will change lookswise as they get older though. My son seems to be getting lighter hair as he gets older, some days his skin looks really light some it looks really dark and his eyes haven't changed at all since birth. You are definitely not alone and you have a beautiful baby!

But you know what girl... You know he is so dont worry what others say. It's all in their features you can really tell. Lately it seems to be mixed children are very common. I have seen a lot of children who are mixed that look the spit of mine. And i can tell their mix. Wat i often wonder is if i was black and my partner was white would people still think i had a white child? you tell me! But your not the only one girl.
