Hay rides

This may be a stupid question but-Are hay rides a bad thing for celiac? I never really thought about it but then I downloaded a form to use for school to inform of gluten issues with food, crafts, and play doh and the form said no straw. Can some people actually be sensitive to the hay because of celiac?

Hi Emily,
I know this is too late, but I thought I'd throw in my opinion anyway. I had the same issue when my daughter was in preschool. I was worried about her ingesting the dust from the hay, but didn't want her missing out. I knew the school was good at making sure the kids didn't throw the hay around, but still... We went for it! When we got off half way through, I remember I asked the driver if the straw was actually wheat. He said "no, it's not" I was shocked! Then he said, "it's pure semolina". Oh well! LOL. Anyway, when we got off, we went immediately to the bathroom and I changed her clothes and made her scrub her hands. She was fine after.

I guess that would depend on how much they can tolerate. Some poeple with celiac use special soap and toothpaste. I would let my son go and he is celiac just tell them not to eat it:)
