I am the one in the fam that has gluten sensitivity...long story short: i got preg the second time and it started then. i have not been clincally diagnosed with celiac because I am preg but i did registerd sensitvity/intolerance wihth blood test so i have been gluten free for about 20 weeks now. i am seeking advice on making my own gluten free flour mixes instead of spending a crazy amount of money on premade mixes. Also seeking advice on what to do for the baby since i plan to breastfeed/pump and since i cant have wheat, will this effect my baby?

i am from WA state. thanks in advance for the advice!!

As far as the breastfeeding goes - gluten does cross over into breastmilk. My youngest reacted the first few weeks of life before I realized I was gluten intolerant. Glutens aren't just in wheat - they're in barley and rye as well, whether or not oats are safe is up for debate. You'll have to read all your labels too, because glutens are EVERYWHERE.

Since gluten intolerance/celiac disease is genetic, it's possible your baby will inherit it as well.

It is possible to make your own flour mixes, but even doing that is a bit on the pricey side. I haven't compared that to the pre-made ones (I mix my own), but maybe somebody else has input on that.

I am planning on breastfeeding as well and the pediatrician did not think that was an issue at all! I have seen a couple different formulas and checked the ingredients and they did not show that wheat was in them either, so I think we're good! I would look at different GF cook books, they all seem to have their own ideas for what is best for flour mixes...and I think from there it is all about preference. I'm due in a week, so I'll let you know how things go as time goes on! Good Luck!!
