My daughter had what they thought was a milk protein allergy and reflux as a baby and is now 8. She's always had constipation and stomach problems and was actually on mineral oil daily as a toddler to get the stool to soften. She seemed to be getting better (other than having frequent stomach aches and constipation - which I chalked up to diet and a sensative tummy) as time went on until recently. I noticed she was tired, had no energy and was constantly complaining that her stomach hurt. She seemed extremely thin lately and at first I just thought it was because she was getting taller and "stretching". Then I noticed that she had dark circles under her eyes and was unable to do a full lap in swimming and just seemed to tired to participate in sports. I tried looking up all of her sypmtoms online and decided to get her into the dr. According to her last physical (exactly a year ago) she hasn't gained any weight and has lost 5 pounds in the last 3 months. The dr did numerous blood tests and an x-ray and we are in the process of collecting stool samples. The x-ray came back fine. The blood tests came back with Erythrocyte sedimentation rate of 90, which is apparently very high and I guess indicates inflamation somewhere in the body. We are waiting for the blood test that may indicate celiac, but the dr is out until Tuesday so we won't know anything until then. Do these symptoms sound like what you've experienced with celiac? Considering all the things that could cause inflamation in the body - celiac doesn't look so bad anymore. Forgive me, I understand it must be a constant struggle, but not quite as scary as lukemia, etc........ Any advice, wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

Krissy, you know that Type A's are not to have dairy and they are to be more veggitarian type diet. If I recall correctly Type B's are the ones that have the least amount of foods that would give there bodies trouble with foods. But, like I said before everyone's bodies are different and will have reactions that may not follow the book but it is a great help to help an individual to try and see how it works for them. It is amazing how you can find out on your own by taking away the things the book mentions that are bad for your body and see how you realize how alements just disappear.

Hi Nicki,

I will tell you from my own experience it sounds like it could be the probablem. I self diagnoised through the book "Eat Right 4 your Blook Type Encyclopedia". I am a blood type O and according to this book O's should stay away from wheat products, milk, potato's except sweet potato's and stick with Monzerella or Feta cheese only. As soon as I excluded these from my diet my constipation went away, acid reflux went away and my migranes went away. If you find out that it is for sure its Celiac's it is very difficult to find foods that don't have these items. Believe me I have investigated for the last 2 years. So if you need some help finding items you can personally email me and I can save you alot of time. my email is bkutoo@yahoo.com. If your daughter has a blood type O I would encourage you to get this book and start changing her diet. If I havn't lived the positive results I wouldn't have believed it!

Hi Nicki

All the above sounds exaclty what my 4 yr old went through. She also lost and wasnt gaining weight  she was in the 0% for height and weight to be exact for 2 1/2 years.  She too complained of tummy aches, tired, started to grow hair all over her body b.c she was so thin. I noticed she wouldnt eat certain things (ones with wheat) would eat alot of dairy which can also be problem for celiacs. I knew something was wrong but the pediatrician told me she was a picky toddler. It wasnt until last year I myself being sick for a a couple of years that I thought of celiac. I was diagnosed last year in april and she had all the same symptoms I had. I want to tell you the mineral oil the dr's told you to give her is NOT good. Mineral oil is a derivative of gasoline. Very bad for your organs. I only know this as I am a consultant for a Swiss Health and Wellness Company. My dr's also suggested it and I told them why and were actually shocked I knew what I was talking about. I used Myralax until she was diagnosed..Hope this helped a bit. Feel free to contact me.

Nicki,

Welcome!  Your daughter's symptoms do sound alot like what mine had.  The wait for the blood test results are the hardest, arent they?  You are right about there being a lot worse things than Celiac.  It's still a pain in the neck at times, but she will not die from it and there are a lot worse things out there.  Whatever the results come out as, it seems she will be in good hands.  She is set with a mom who follows her instincts, took her to the doc, did her research on the net and has already dove into support and info resources.  I have a 9 year old daughter also, so let us know wehn you get the results and we could network.
