My almost 2 year old son was just diagnosed with acid reflux(they haven't gone so far as to call it GERD yet) yesterday morning. He's been vomiting at completely random times for almost 2 months now and it was making going anywhere and doing anything hard. He got sick in the middle of the grocery store a couple of days ago after just eating some bread and drinking a little of his grandma's iced tea....that set me over the edge!!! The doctor wants us to do the Zantac for 2 weeks, write down everything he eats/drinks and when he gets sick, if the Zantac doesn't help he has to have an endoscopy.

My question is has anyone else had probelms giving their child Zantac? Last night was his first dose and he did ok until he swallowed it and tried to spit it back up. Then this morning when I tried to give it to him he RAN and I had to hold him down and forcefully give it to him! Traumatic for him and for mommy :( Any ideas on how to make this better for him and for me?

My daughter Addison was given Zantac when she was a month old. She was having problems swallowing, mostly at night. It scared me because she would choke and she quit breathing a few times. Once we put her on that Zantac, she has been a different little girl. We forget to give it to her every once in awhile and right away shes has trouble. Talk to your pharamcy about the taste...I used to work in one for 15 years and some pharmacies can alter the taste by adding flavoring to it. Its a VERY strong taste and they might not be able to overpower it but its worth a try.

my son started with zantac then we went to prevacid for awhile and now we are finally on prilosec and it seems to be our miracle drug so if it stops working don't give up it doesn't mean that its not reflux it just means that the meds might not be as effective as they once were it happens...

I have a almost 4 month old and has been on it since she was 3 weeks old. We were given the liquid form. Yes its minty but I have the pharmacists add grape flavor so its not so bad. Sometimes she does give me a hard time. I always try to give it to her right before a bottle so I can wash it down with formula. For your 2 year old try water or juice to wash it down. I am sure it doesnt taste good. Honestly I dont even know if its helping.... Ugghhh

My son takes it, as well as my two younger brothers and niece. It helps a bunch. I stopped giving him gas drops to help him burp. My doctor as well as had me switch him over to Enfamil A.R. It helps too.

My three month old baby girl has really bad acid reflux we have tried it all... the cereal in the bottles which is the only way food stays down her. She is on zantac and it has helped her dramatically. He throws up maybe once a week and stopped screaming at every burp. I put it in her cheek so she dont spit it out but her formula is the hypoallergenic kind so she is prolly used to that nasty taste lol. It helps to sit her up after her medicine so it stays down.

Hey, I have a 2 month old and was prescribed Zantac today. Its in liquid form and...I tasted a little. Its minty so maybe you can put it in some water or milk? Not sure if that will work or if it would mess with effectiveness but just an idea.

Hi, I have a three month old with bad reflux, he is on medication for it. We have had no problems so far, although the nature of reflux they do spill the medication does not stop this. A tip I was giving was to give a little of the medicine then wait a minute then a little more etc even if it takes ten mintues to get down. If you can keep it down for five minutes your a winner. Our medication is in liquid form, it is the Omp..... cant spell it lol but it is known as Losec,

It has helped but like I say it doesnt prevent spilling or completely take away the attacks.

Hope this helps
