hi katie i'm april my daughter lexie was born with pierre robin syndrome and she had to have her first surgery at 20 days old to fix her recessed chin i was very scared.she also had a cleft palate and she didn't have surgery for that until she was 9 monthsold .when a child is that young its scary to have to watch them go through surgery. I hope for the best for you and your little boy let me know how everything works out!!!♥

Hi, my oldest was born with a wide unilateral cleft lip/palate. He is almost 5 & a very typical boy! He just had his 4th surgery. It's not easy, but you will get through it. It will be harder on you at this age than on your baby boy.

I can tell you it is scary. Elizabeth's first surgery was a lip closure. This was done to stretch the skin to meet the other half of her smile.

The second lip adhesion will copmlete the smile, but the first helps it grow large enough to cover the face.

One thing I reccomend is to have some vasoline to rub on the stitches, they should give you an oinment to keep infection away, but when that is done start putting the vasoline on. I wouldn't reccomend using maderma. Maderma is used for scars that have already healed.

Just rmember to take a breather and if you need help or a break while your at the hospital, ask the nurses. Your son will cry, and probably alot.

Good luck!
