Question being... What else can I do for her.. She is 11 months and 20lbs... Nither one of us have been getting any sleep for the last 3 days.. I also have a 2 year old son.. I am lucky to be getting 3 hours of sleep a night and then still getting up and taking care of the kids and house.. What can I do to help her... So that she and I can get more rest so i have the engery to keep up with a 2 year old... Thank you for any adivce or comments..

My 23 week preemie was very prone to colds after he first came home and I hated the bulb nasal suckers, never could get much out of his sinuses that way. I went to Walgreen's and bought a Graco nasal aspirator and its been one of the greatest things I've ever bought him. He hates it, and screams while I am doing it, but it gets a ton of the snot out so he can breathe better. That helps him sleep better. We have recliner couches, and I would have him sleep on my chest while I reclined (my arms propped with pillows so he couldn't roll); this also seemed to help him with the drainage. I did also use a cool mist humidifier in his room. I have never used the vick's because I disagree with the companies animal testing practices, but I've heard you can put eucalyptis oil on thier feet to help open the air passages; be wary of allergic reactions though.

oh, you are very welcome and i know what you mean, you have to be careful when going anywhere when your child has a birth defect of any kinds. my son has hydro and it is a lot different from what she has but same thing applies when you go to seek help. I sure hope things turn out well i will hope for the best. It was the first thing i thought of though when i read her problems. take care and i hope things go well for her at the doctors.

Doubting I can help but thought I would try. I wanted to say have you tried making the room cooler. I know when it is too warm and your having sinus troubles its hard to breath so maybe making it cooler in the room but keeping her in a warm sleeper may help her breath better. Also, when you called did they mention anything about RSV possibility? I was just wondering if maybe it could be that at all. I hope that you can get some rest, I know how hard it can be when you get no sleep and have to function with it and care for someone. Do you have breath right strips to help her breath or tried a bath and maybe a swing or something. I probably haven't helped much but I hope that someone does and that she gets treated soon for both of you.

We went to the Doctor today.. She has a bad cold that could have turned in to some thing more.. They have her taking Nebulizer Treatments 4 times aday.. Other then that just have to keep an eye on her and watch to make sure that it won't turn in to something more.. Thank you all for the advice.. Also my doctor told us NOT to use the Baby Vicks or any other Vicks Prouducts as she is having a bad reaction to them.. Thank again...

Thank you, Yes we have to keep her mattress elevated do to really bad reflux.. I am very familuar with RSV my son had.. He was put on med, nebulizer and Cool Mist Humidifire (as our doctor says that the warm steam ones can make it worse) I have to be very careful on where and who she is seen by.. (as i do not want to have to travel 2 hours everytime she has a cold) They have to have her medical records otherwise they just send us on to the hospital where she was born.. ( which has happened many time over nothing that i take her in to be see for) So i try to stick with her peds he has been my sons ped for 2 years now.. He is a very good doctor as he use to work where my daughter was born but wanted to start a family practice so he move up to where we live.. But thank you all for the Advice...

Vicks are not safe for little ones. It's to strong. I've read in a book that one can rub vicks on the sole of the feet and that it will work as if you've rubbed it on her chest. You can also try eucoluptis oil. (not sure of the spelling) Drip a few drops on her pillow before bed time. It will help with the phlem and help her to breath better

Have you tried elevating her to sleep. We used to roll up towels and place them under the crib mattress to elevate the one end slightly. As for RSV....it's going around a lot right now. I wouldn't wait for the appointment....take her to urgent care or go somewhere else. We go to Metro Pediatrics and between their 3 locations they are open 7 days a week. They also keep a portion of their days appointment free for urgent appointments. Shop around and find a place that you can get her into when YOU need to. I think a lot of clinics forget that WE are their customers.

That was the first thing that popped in to my head as my son got it this time of year.. He was 6 months old and was put in the hospital cuz his O2 was low.. That was on march of 08.. So I thank you for that thought you just helped me a ton with what we are thinking here.. ( my hubby and i just talked bout that earlier today.. So we will be talking in the morning to see how tonight goes and then i am sure she will end up at one of those.. I just have to be picky on who see's her.. (due to birth defect they have to know her history) Thank you for reasuring our thoughts....
