Our daughter Wynn Yvonne was born @ 29wks and weighed 2lbs 8oz. She never had any health problems. She is now just over 10 mo.old. She shows no signs or intrest in crawling yet. I know preemies have their own timeline for doing things but Im wondering ( for those of you with older preemies) when did your little ones start to crawl? and how early were they born?

hon, stop worrying. kids move at their own rate LITERALLY. when she is ready she will take off, either crawling or just skip that part and get up and run! Hang in there. My daughter was 9 1/2 wks early, she did not walk or crawl until she was well over a yr. the drs told me that she never would. i started doing exercises with her muscles, and water exercises as well and when she was ready, she walked. She has never looked back. She did not talk until she was 4, now at the age of 21 and expecting her first child, we cant shut her up. lol give her time, and never believe that a preemie will not catch up or even take off, because they will.

My son was only 4 wks and 5 days early, he was a late crawling, walkin and talkin, BUT ALL PREMMIE BABIES CATCH UP BY THE TIME THEY ARE 3, My son was doing the right things by 3 (JUST) and is at school, can write his name, knows his numbers, colours, sounds, can recognise the alphabet and has more confidence than a bag of confidence!!!!!!! He is doin fab and will b 5 in June.... Just dont worry when other Mum's say My son/daughter blah blah was walkin by now... He/she could do his times table by the time he/she was 18mths!!!!!!

They are all different but also all unique and we wouldnt do without them.

I always go by her adjusted age, when she should have been born and go of of a full term babies average timeline...but don't worry about it, my daughter wouldn't sit up FOREVER!!! until she was 11 months simply because she doesn't like it! SHe was crawling before she sat! Point being they will do it when they are ready. Just spend lots of time on the floor enticing her with fun things to crawl towards!

Hi there..I am the mother of a 27 and 6/7 week preemie. (That's how the doc estimated it) She was eager to come into this world to see what the hub bub was all about. However, the chief reason for her early birth was due to my HIGH blood pressure that was putting too much strain on the baby. Therefore, I had to have a C-section and was told before the surgery that it won't be surprising if the baby doesn't survive due to the underdevelopment of her lungs and she may be a downs baby. That was stuff I didn't want to hear. Anyway, to make a long story short, she is a little over 10 months old, 25 inches long and a big 13 pounds as of April 14. She sits up for a little while and just rolls over to hold her head up now. She hasn't quite caught on to rocking herself or getting on her knees. She's developmentally fine and growing without any health complications, thank God. I was told that she will be behind others her "born" age and that her age is what it would be if she were born on her due date of August 24. So just like the other post I read, I subtract the months to where she would've been a little over 7 months where her development is concerned. She is a smart kid who knows how to get what she wants from my suspicion and will milk this thing for as long she can. It all depends on the child I guess. My other two children were off the bottle, walking and toilet trained as soon as they turned a year. Time will tell. You have a darling little one there. :)

I had twins at 31weeks 2 days, my son started what I call "army" crawling at about 5 1/2 months but my daughter didn't start will about 8 months. I also have a friend who had twins at 27 weeks and her boys didn't start crawling till they were over a year old but they did have some major medical issues. They turned two in Nov 2008 and still aren't walking

My daughter was born @ 24 weeks and weighed 2lbs 5ozs and at a year is walking and talking. It helped her that I have older children that constantly played with her. Let her be, when she is ready she will move.

My daughter, Charlie, is 11 1/2 months (9 months corrected). She was born at 28 wks and has had no major problems. She started headstanding at 8 months (6 mths corrected) and finally mastered crawling after moving around in downward facing dog pose for a few months. She is still commando crawling and has started pulling herselfto stadn on everything! They are all different just like full term bubs, try not to stress

My triplets are 29 weekers too. They are 7 months and both of my boys are trying to crawl but my daughter shows no interest. My DR says that it is normal for girl preemies to take longer. I am interested to know when your daughter starts. Good luck to you!

My son was born at 33 weeks.  He's a little over 8 months old now and is just sitting up.  He has no interest in crawling but he loves to stand.  He loves the jump-a-roo!!!  Thomas was 3.1 at birth and is now 16.10.

I had my twins at 29 weeks. We were also lucky that we didn't really have any health problems. They were slow to meet their milestones. they are now 16 months old (13 1/2 months corrected). My son started to crawl at around 12-13 months actual age,and my daughter started to crawl at around 14-15 months actual age. they both are cruising around right now, and my son is standing on his own, and they are so close to walking. It really is true that they do things at their own pace. And with them being preemie, sometimes it just takes a little longer. The OT and myself both believed that my daughter could have crawled sooner, but she just didn't want to. some kids don't like to crawl!

Hello! I had three preemies- two who lived - a boy born at 27 weeks and 6 days and a girl born at 32 weeks. My two did everything around their corrected age and have had some issues but my son who is now seventeen and by the time he was 12 his foot was bigger than he was at birth. About then -in grade 7 - he became athletic! He is now in 11th grade and on the basketball, rugby, and football teams! He is very co-ordinated.

My daughter is now 13 and physically very typical for her age. They both struggled with respiratory issues, but do VERY WELL now!

Attention issues in school and home are problematic for both and like, resarch has supported they can do well in math but really need support. Do all you can to promote numerical litteracy when your little one is young and growing. Counting , sorting, questioning and talking aloud when you are "doing" math- like I'm setting the table there are four of us and we each need a plate and 1 knife and fork each so I will need four plates four forks..." It will make a lot of difference!

My son was born at 25 weeks weighting 1 lb 13 oz.  He's now 15 months (12 corrected) and he doesn't crawl and I don't think he will.  He's pulling himself up and walking as long as he can hold onto something. My cousin has a preemie (he was a 32 weeker) and he skipped crawling as well, and walked for the first time on his first birthday.  Every kid is different.

My son was a 34 weeker and didn't crawl until he was 11 months. We have been working with a physio therapist since 8 months to assist him with his motor development. If you worried you can always approcah this with your doctor. I know if gave me some piece of mind to know that we were working towards it at least!

Everything depends on your kiddo.  My daughter was born at 34 wks, she is now seven months and wants to walk and have nothing to do with crawling.  I have a friend with a term baby who is nine months and she crawls and doesn't want to walk.  Here is the thing, timelines are a joke.  Preemie or term baby, they will do what they want, when they want to do it.  You can never judge anything based on those things.  She will be moving around before you know it and you will actually miss those quiet days! ;)

My daughter Kennady was born 6 weeks early & she started crawling at 9.5 months. She didn't start rolling until 6 months & sat by herself at 7 months. Crawling isn't really a skill babies need to learn how to walk. If your baby goes straight to walking, it's okay that she skipped the crawling phase. Good luck. You can put her on all fours & rock her back and forth. She may not be strong enough to hold herself up yet. Just work with her & it will come before you know it =]

My daughter was born at 26 weeks. She weighed just 1 lb. and 12 oz. She started crawling 2 days after her first birthday. She never had any health problems either. She had an occupational therapist for 16 months. I would basically watch what the therapist did when she was here and then I would do the same thing several time everyday. My daughter is now 5 yrs. old. She has been caught up on everything since she was 2 1/2. She didn't walk til she was 16 months.

My son started crawling at 13 months he was born at 27 weeks and is 17 months old. I have a occupational therapist who works with Jacob and we would put him on his hands and knees and rock him back and forth. Then we would do the same and put a toy in front of him. He mastered scooting on his butt first then right before christmas started crawling.

My son was a 29 wker, we started sitting at 9 1/2 m, crawled about 10m, pulled up and walked holding things at 11 1/2 m and then walked at 14m. He was always just about exactly on for his adjusted age! He will be 3 in May and is fully caught up (by two years), we had no language delays.

Oh, it won't be long before she gets up on all fours!!! then she will star rocking back & forth (which is hilarious!!!) and hopefully star crawling from there, if she is even going to crawl. She may just walk and skip crawling all together!!

She does not get up on her hands and knees yet. She has mastered sitting and rolling and she is constantly reaching for things. Im not worried about her..the Dr said she is hitting all her developemental milestones. I realize all babies do things when they are ready...I was just curious about other preemies born about as early she was.

My daughter was born @ 26wks and 1lbs 13oz. She never had any major health problems either. If you adjust the timeline to a full term and add a month for a very preemie then you should see them follow the timeline pretty close. Remeber a full term is give or take 3 months either way. I preemie doesn't usually catch up until they hit 2 1/2 to 3 years of age and then their still behind on weight. My daughter is now a teenager and is as normal as ever. I remember how weird is was to tell people how old she was and the crazy look you get because of how small she was.

My son is 9months 2wks old now, he was born at 32wks. He started to try to call at 6months, he is now trying to walk by himself. I think it just depends on the child. I know that with a term baby, there isn't really a timeline for walking or crawling. They will do it when they are ready. Does she get up on her hands & knees? I wouldn't worry to much about her not crawling yet, she will do it when she is ready. Her adjusted age is 7months?? so try to think of her at that age and not her real age. Hope I helped alittle.
