my twin boys were born at 27 weeks 2lbs6oz and 2lbs9oz..... im a little suprised at how intellegent they are due to the fact that doctors told me to expect mental and physical disabilities!!!! The only delay they've had was walking at 13 months, at 2 years and 2 months of age they know and can say their ABC's,days of the week, months of the year and can count to about 30 on command :) I'm not here to brag because i know being a mother of preemies is hard even before they are born but to show anyone struggling that there is always hope and god makes all things possible :) My boys can also identify body parts (eyes, nose, mouth, fingers, toes, ears, knees etc.) they identify feelings, mimic and imitate things and behaviors seen in person and on tv and can identify animals and the sounds they make lol i love being their mom even with the stryggle i went thru to get them here :) .....i work in the childcare field and can honestly say that they show beyond normal brain capacity and function on a higher level than some children in the 2-4 range that were born full term. So talk to your children explain all things from shapes, colors and feelings to things like how a rainbow is made they absorb it ALL!

Marcus Jr is 14 months (12 adjusted). He is crawling, walking, trying to run, laughing, just a big flirt, he just started being loud when we go out to eat, he likes to try and stand and walk on the bed, the only thing he is not doing is climbing. He tries to walk down stairs though without bending his knees, Yea. He's doing it all though. Never a dull moment with him

My son was 5 1/2 weeks early and I don't adjust his age. I have found that all babies do their thing when they are ready. My son is 16 months old and he is just starting to walk (bravely by himself) holding onto things. It wasn't until a week ago that he began to crawl. He is a talker! He has 11 teeth, weighs 23 pounds, great personality (not a crier) though can be dramatic at times which is funny (NICU nurses spoiled him when he was in the NICU). He is picky when it comes to food but he will grow out of that some day. Though there is nothing wrong with him mentally or physically his is just lazy and I figured he will do things when he is ready. The doctor isn't concerned so why should I be.

I can continue forever, but Halie has came a very long way by the grace of God & a very prayerful mother

Leah was born at 36 weeks and was born very sick with neonatal liver failure. Miraculously her liver healed by itself and she will be turning 3 in December. They are both full of beans and love to chat, chat chat!!!

My son was born @ 23 weeks weighing 633 grams. He was blind (2 lazer eye surgery's), he had a PDA done, and stayed in the NICU for 4 months. He stopped breathing and had to return for a month. Now he's 10 weighing 115 lbs. No major problems just asthma and dirt and grass allergies.

My Preemie is walking, climbing, talking, signing, saying ABC's (not in total order), counting... She is beyond smart for her age and she is only 21 months. We are quite proud of her! She has grown up quickly. My daughter eats and eats.. I have no clue where it all goes, but I know when its "out"., she runs, she knows the names of all her cousins, aunts, etc., she loves our birds. she understands that they do bite. She is just a very very busy little girl.

my daughter is 16 months old, was born 12 weeks early weighing 2lb 3 oz. She is happy and healthy- walking , saying a few words, climbing everything. Our only problem is vocal cord issues (hoarse) and she is only about 19lbs due to eating issues

My son was born 8weeks early, he was tiny and needed help to breath. Now he is a super fit, energetic 4year old boy. For the last 2years he hasnt touched his asthma pump, and he keeps up with all the other kids his age, and is a healthy average size. It seems silly now to remember how worried and stressed i was about every little thing, when he's grown to be so healthy and happy with no real long term effects.

Vera is 3 months and 2 weeks old. She was born 12 weeks early weighing 2lbs 4oz. Her adjusted age is 2 weeks old. She is doing great and no longer has ROP. She loves tummy time and picks up her head to look around, she also smiles and knocks over her teddy bear. She seems to be gaining weight and height perfectly! I am very happy and blessed that she is doing so well. God bless everyone!

Noah is just about 1. He was born at 34 weeks 5days. Weighing 5lbs 10oz. I count my blessings everyday he has had no delays. He is just about walking and is an overall happy baby. My daughter Madison will be 4 in December and was born at 36 weeks. Weighing 5lbs 2oz. She has been my sick girl in and out of the hospital for two years with asthma issues for a couple years now but it seems like we have finally gotten it under control.

I have twin boys. They were 12 weeks early and are now 15 months/12 1/2 months adjusted. One talks some, crawls everywhere and is pulling himself up to stand. He had many digestive issues and is now 18 lbs. My other son has some disabilities, although he is doing very well his motor function is much delayed. He rolls from both front to back and back to front (when he feels like it.) We are working on trunk control so he can sit. He just started clapping his hands and will occaisionally hold his own sippy. He is turning pages in books and talks more than his brother. He weighs 21 lbs. Sounds to me like you are very fortunate to have a preemie doing so well. Don't forget to count your blessings:)
