I wonder the same thing. Addison never properly latched on. I was sore when I tried and she would fall asleep while eating. We would have to strip her down from her clothes and our lactation nurse recommended feeding her on a Madella premie bottle. She was 41 week baby and weighed 8.4 at birth. She still has problems eating and she is 3 now.

I had lots of problems too! We spent lots of time with the lactation consultants. Just one of the areas where my daughter has issues is with oral defensiveness.

This might be a "low-tone" issue. My son is three. He is my sensory-seeking boy, and he did not do well with breastfeeding. This was because he had/has low muscle tone.. (hypotonia?).

I have 7 kids and breastfed 6 of them. Some were harder to feed than others. Everychild is different.
