Hi, My 20 month old son was just diagnosed by an OT (informally, she said she would need to see him a few more times to be 100% sure but is pretty certain) and the following day my mother was watching him briefly while I was in the garage. She was having a hard time keeping him off of the table and the arms of the couch ect and went on youtube and played this video to distract him. http://youtu.be/FrsM9WggCdo She then stated that he had started trembling from head to toe. and when I returned she replayed the video to see if I had ever seen him do this before (which I hadnt) with both of us having some experience in the medical field it looked like a seizure. (of course I freaked out and started crying) Called my Pediatrician and got him in that day. He stated that a video wasnt a likely cause for a seizure but doesnt have alot of experience with SPD so he gave us a referral to a neurologist and we are awaiting a call back from them for an appointment.

The question is: have any of you ever experienced this with your children? I just don't understand how a group of children singing if your happy and you know it can cause such an extreme reaction especially because he hears that song on his reading videos all the time. is this a typical behavior for SPD? I am just really worried. This had been a total nightmare trying to get the right diagnosis and the right treatments. And now I fear it may be something worse. thank you

@dawn, not et. on wed we are taking him to the neurologist and hopefully we can get some answers. I was spinning him in circles the other day and it happened again. now I'm afraid to rough house with him which makes him very restless. Hes always loved to be spun around and tossed on the bed. I've worked with kids with seizure disorders, it did look like a moderate seizure but I'm not sure. the tremors were so slight but widespread. afterwards its like nothing happened. he continued laughing afterwards.

@Stephanie, thank you so much. this has been torture. Everytime we think we have him figured out, theres something else. I just want to get him the help he needs.

Rachel- From what I've read it is common for children with SPD to have epilepsy...or maybe it's common that kids with epilepsy have SPD. Whatever the path, there is a definite link between SPD, seizure disorder and autism spectrum disorders. I've pasted some website links that might be helpful. Good luck and big hugs. ♥

Also, with epilepsy and seizure disorder, a seizure can be provoked by something as simple as a flashing light or loud noise. Even if it has never happened before, this could just be the first time his disorder has become symptomatic.

Hey Rachel, my son who is 3 has had issues with SPD since he was an infant. I have never had an issue with seizures being associated with any of his symptoms. I hope your pediatrician can help you find some answers. Did they prove for certain is was a seizure?
