I am Brandi, mother to my SPD child Andy, who is 6. He was diagnosed at 5 after me telling my pediatrician year after year that something wasn't right. He had severe food issues, and has several characteristics on the autism spectrum. I was concerned at one point that he may have Aspergers. However, we were told by a neurologist that while he does have several of the symptoms, he does not have Aspergers.

Anyway, it's been a long, strange, difficult journey for us this last year and a half, and I'm looking forward to having a place to give/receive support.

Hi Brandi. My 6 year old son was diagnosed with Sensory Integration Disorder three years ago. He is a sensory seeker, and yes there are many overlapping behaviors between sensory and autism, but when my son was diagnosed the nurse told us, "Don't let anyone try to diagnose him on the Autism Spectrum!" While there are many similarities in both behaviors and treatment, they are not the same thing. Is your son in school? My son just started Kindergarten and I was wondering if your son's school is working with you to help your son succeed.

My 3 year old was just diagnosed with SPD and we are starting to have him tested for many other disorders as well. I have been telling people that something wasnt right for a year and a half and everyone tells me he will grow out of it. Im glad that this place is here to help! I dont even know where to start to help him at home!!!
