My 9 yr old son has SPD and ADHD. He was diagnosed at age 3. Boy has it been a challenge thus far! But, My son is the sweetest most creative of all my kids (even though u shouldn't compare them) his SPD makes him very empathetic to others. I am so glad to have found this group. Most people have never heard of SPD. And every year I explain it to teachers who act as though I made up a disorder. So frustrating! To just know that there really are other moms doing this to makes me feel less alone with my son. Sometimes it feels as though the 2 of us are fighting the school sysem to help him and accept him. And then there are the days that I have to fight him for him too...

Hi! Just giving you a welcome! I'm fairly new to this group myself. My oldest son, Carter is 4 and has been diagnoses with SPD at the age of 2 1/2. We started out with the home therapies through help with the state of Indiana but he aged out at age 3 so now he attends a special needs preschool. I honestly had never heard of SPD either until was told my son has it! I still feel like I'm learning about it. Several family members swear he has autism, but I was told that SPD can look alot like autism but the psychologist doesn't believe him to have that. I also am thinking he may have ADD. Although I was told there aren't very many that can diagnose a child under 5 with ADD so I have one more year to wait before I will know anything about that. I also have 2 more sons, Owen is 2 and Gage is 10 1/2 months. I am suddenly starting to think my second son may also have a touch of SPD but I'm thinking not near as severely as my first son. Would love to coorespond with you if you want!
