my darling 3 year old daughter has been doing so well with clothes, even socks stay on for a little while, but now we have a new problem.

her FINGERNAILS bother her. to the point she rips them off! all her nails are now so short that a few are down to the skin. she hasn't made any bleed yet, but there are quite a few that are really pink and irritated. i always keep her fingernails trimmed, but she just cant seem to leave them alone. she is picking at them constantly. what do i do? has anyone else come across this? how do i stop it? she is getting ingrown nails because of how short she is making them which is just making matters worse. HELP!!!!!!!

Hi there, I'm new to this group but have been dealing with SPD for approx. 3 years now.  Recently my 7 year old has demonstrated this same behavior.  I know it's due to the anxieties she is dealing with that most kids just don't understand at her age.  The constant stimulation wears on her.   Lately the OT at her school, she receives this as part of her IEP, has suggested wearing a weighted vest at school to help calm her nerves.  She's worn it a couple of times and seems to enjoy it.  I asked her if if felt like she was being hugged and she said yes.  Heavy pressure has always helped to calm her down.  You might want to talk to an OT and maybe give it a try.  Best wishes

thank you! She has been doing so well and i am hoping it stops soon. I am trying not to bring attention to it as it seems to upset her. I appreciate your support.

My daughter in the past has mostly just struggled with clothing items. I have gotten sort of used to this and can deal-pretty much anyway! She too has started something new that I have NO IDEA what to do about. Her eylashes are bothering her and she is picking at them CONSTANTLY. I too am feeling very overwhelmed and concerned about this. I so wish I could give you some wonderful advice, but I just don't know any. I can tell you I am going down a familiar path you are. I will be praying for your daughter just as I do mine. I hope it helps even a little to know there are others out here going through similar stuff. It has helped me to know I am not the only one! Thank you for posting your story!
