Does anyone know how to tell if the fits of rage is SPD or could be something else? I dont know what to do with my 7 year old daughter when she has these fits. Any advice would be very appreciated, Thank you

My Granddaughter is also 7. In the past I would say they were worse. In certain situations she would just lose control of her emotions. It all depends on what is triggering it.

Are you talking about hitting (she used to hit her Mom when frustrated and she is now doing that a lot less, but my 3 yr old Grandson hits a lot now), kicking (again when she feels frustrated), throwing things (she still does that a lot when she is frustrated with something), and saying inappropriate mean things (she still does that a lot when she is frustrated and/or angry)?

And yes I sometimes call them "fits" too, and my 3 yr old Grandson has them a lot now and we are teaching him to "use your words", when he is feeling frustrated or angry. They are actually considered meltdowns, and they are not a pretty sight. My daughters and I have had to try to diffuse them even in public settings with people staring at us. That is the worst.

There could also be other causes so you could have her evaluated for that aspect too.

For example autism, BiPolar Disorder (that runs in my family too), etc. And at the age your daughter is at, and my Granddaughter, the vaccines they got especially in their first 2 years did have thimerosol/mercury in them, and that could neurologically play a role too.

Hope that helps:O) I take care of 2 children with SPD, the 7 year old and the 3 year old. It's been a real challenge! There are also good books out there on SPD and websites.
