Tomatis Program

My daughters just got a grant to get special headphones to use the Tomatis program.

We started it last week and my daughter seems to be feeling/expressing a LOT more emotion. I don't know if this is from the program or not. It's a listening program. The basic idea is that if you stimulate the cochlea through sounds, it will also impact the vestibular system through the cochlea. So, they give you music for the child to listen to with only certain frequencies filtered in. It's pretty new, so there isn't much data on it yet.

I think its mostly in the Seattle region, but I'm not sure. If anyone has any experience with it, I'd love to hear what their observations were... I'm not even sure what to expect/watch for.

I don't know much about this program, but from reading the website I have to point out that I do not agree with much of what this doctor has written. My son has *no* problems with receptive language. He listens really well for a child his age and often understands more than expected at his age. Therefore I am not convinced that this program would be beneficial to him. That being said, after reading further it seems that his method might have some promise. My son is extremely sensitive to sounds and he doesn't have the ability to filter out background noise and we think this interferes with his language development. So that makes think that there is something to this therapy. Let us know if it helps!
