My very athletic 16 year old has not had a period in 5 months. I just made her a doctor's appt. Has anyone experienced this? What course of action will the doctor take? She is horrified of having to have a pap test.

My daughter is an athlete with very low body fat. This happened to her continually through high school. I believe it is pretty normal. Yes, pap tests are yucky, but that is life. It is better to make sure she knows that when something is amiss, you be your own best advocate and see a doctor. If she is not sexually active, I doubt the Doc will do a pap. However, one of my daughter's teammates had something where tissue had formed internally where it kept her from having a period, she would only spot. She could not force a tampon in, so they knew this was the problem.
