My daughter has been dealing with acne since she was 10 and now she is almost 17. It has stopped her from thinking that she is pretty and I have a hard time getting to leave the house. I have done the proactive, blu light therapy, levulan that made her look like a tomato for a couple of days, varied types of antibiotics, and the latest a laser therapy that sucks the stuff out of the pores. Some of these things have made her break out more others only work temporarily or only partially. It break my heart that she missing out on all the fun she should be having - it has also had a negative effect on her learning - because she is always worried how she looks.

Also she is hyper about going into the sun because she has fair skin and she does not like the way her skin turns red (arms, body, and face).

The Unblemish regimen from Rodan and Fields is a miracle! Has worked wonders for my friends teenagers! You can get these products with a consultant, which I happen to be one! Let me know if I can help anyone. Teens have way too many other things to worry about! Check out my website below, hover over “shop skin care” and click on Unblemish.

All I have to say is that Accutane/Clarivis (which is Isotretinoin) is what will work when nothing else does. I used it back when I was a teen in the 80’s and now my poor 13 year old daughter is using it. It’s been rough on her as she’s so down on her looks. She feels as if her life is ruined because of her acne. I can relate; I felt the same way.

She’s been on it for a couple of months and it’s helping. It is a powerful drug for sure. The side effects can be a little unsettling. I’ve had to really weigh the pros and cons and it’s been stressful. Good luck on treating your children— the teen years suck!

I have extremely acne prone, sensitive skin and and I can only use natural/organic products. The Made from Earth Control Acne Wash is amazing! After using it for just 3 days my skin looks beautiful! Make sure to moisturize after too!

My son started with (barely) stage 1 acne only on his face. We were using body shop washes and creams but, it was getting costly. We went to our doctor and I convinced him to prescribe a mild acne cream so we wouldn't have to constantly pay out of our pocket at the body shop. This way we can claim through our insurance. He was 13 at the time and his acne has gotten to a stage 3 with it on back, shoulders, face and chest. It's awful! Since we have begun he has had sooo many different cream prescriptions and is on an oral prescription right mino-cylcine and retina cream. Still not working.Friends of ours teens were on Clarus but, had to do bloodwork monthly because this medication affects their kidneys. I am very hesitant with my son trying this med but it cleared up my friends teens skin!

I'm very acne prone and no over the counter medication helped so if there is medical insurance doctors approach is an amazing place. If not my aunt had pretty bad acne and she uses goats milk, it's sold in a bar and I've seen it at meijer. It worked, her face looks beautiful!

I recommend Accutane and I agree make sure she takes birth control. Also a firnd of mine gave her daughter Arbone vitamin supplements. You have to buy it through a sales rep, much like an Avon lady. You find a rep near you via their web site. She take a vitamin 2 x a day and it was amazing how much her skin cleared up. She ran out of the vitamins for a couple of weeks and her acne came back.
Acutane is the most effective and you only have to take it for a few months and then your skin is clear. I took it as a teen and I am taking it again as an adult because I got adult acne. It's the only thing that worked. Just make sure your dermatologist has your child take monthly blood tests to monitor everything. Also start on a low dose, that might be all they need.

ask our doc for an antibiotic. I use it for my daughter and it cleared up nice. Bad thing if she tops it comes back. But the new commercials say its a medical problem and a lot of OTC meds don't work.. Acutane is harmful..

HI DAWN, MY SON (16)HAD AN ACNE PROBLEM, AND WAS ON ACCUTANE FOR 5 MONTHS, HE HAS BEEN OFF OF IT SINCE mAY AND NOT ONE OF THEM HAVE RETURNED. THEY MAY OR MAY NOT RETURN IN THE FUTURE, BUT SO FAR SO GOOD. MOST INSURANCE WILL COVER TO SEE THE DERMATOLOGIST, GET A FREE CONSULTATION. THEY WILL DRAW BLOOD EVERY MONTH AND SHE WILL HAVE TO BE ON BIRTH CONTROL OR NO SEX AT ALL. THESE PILLS CAN BE HARMFUL TO THE FETUS.

If you decide to try accutane make sure the doctor prescribes a birth control method that she will use faithfully.

Hi Dawn. I have several mom friends that have been in your same situation with their daughters. After much caution they considered Acutane as presented by their dermatologists. I know this is a powerful drug and it is not without side effects and should not be taken without much evaluation. However, the results these teenagers have had has been AMAZING! Their skin is beautiful and these sweet girls have a new confidence. I was absolutely stunned at how well the acne cleared. You might want to discuss Acutane with your doctor. The results can be impressive.

I was going to say Proactive. That really worked for my boys. I think acne is tougher on girls because we always have something on our face and what our face really needs is just to be clean.

I had an adult acne problem until I started drinking more water. I mean A LOT of water. I drank 96oz everyday so I didn't really have room to drink anything else. I started the water thing for my weight but found that after a month my skin started to look great too.
