My 14 year old is the sweetest child with older kids, young kids and elderly, but argues to hell and back with peers and authority. We will be seeing a specialist for Meds. Can anyone enlighten me regarding medications for ADHD. I hear some side affects are scary. Also, I'm alone, as his father and I are divorcing.

Thank you so much, Chris. Meds in general scare me for kids. This whole diagnosis just has me stressed. I'm thankful for answers but concerned about long term use of any drugs. I want to research more holistic methods.

There is no specific diagnosis for ADHD. It is more or less a guessing game for the Doctors. It is also a very big money maker for drug companies. Make sure to have a doctor you trust because the medications have alot of side affects. I worked in that field for awhile and have also taken courses about ADHD. I have a friend that works in the field and what they did was have her daughter on meds for a very short time while the daughter learned how to focus on her school work etc. Once the daughter could see that she could do the work etc, they weaned her off the meds. I don't know how bad your child is but I would not stick them on medications without lots of research. Too many doctors stick kids on meds automatically when counseling would work.
You might want to watch this documentary on youtube and then talk to the doctor about it.
