Any advice on how to convince your 16 year old girl to pack less?

My husband is taking us to London because his Brother lives there. We are making it a suprise for the kids and telling them we are going to their grandparents house instead for a week instead of London for a week. Even though my daughter thinks we are just going to grandmas and grandpas she still packs like she is going for a month. She is 16 and I won't be able to afford to bring that along(it is really big). Any advice?

Make her pay for the additional things she brings, anything overweight? she pays the whole bag.

She has to be a troll - I've seen a few of her comments and they are all really inappropriate.

Edith that is really really rude. You obviously are a nasty NON mother. I am flagging you. Sorry monitors I don't want to sound mean but this is getting out of hand. She is posting such rude stuff on my questions.

Actually when she was ten she was in a phase where she would where the same thing every day. And she's a girl :-) :-) :-) :-)

My son has done many "outward Bound" camps through school, where they have to carry what they pack for a week (actually last time was 10 days). He is really good at fitting all his stuff in one large pack that he can carry for days on end :) But then, he's a boy. I swear he'd feel happy dressing in the same stuff every day (and yes, he stunk to high heaven when he came back from that 10 days).

Awesome! I'd be curious to know as well. I know when my son packed for his month in Germany, he had to restructure many times to get within the baggage allowance...LOL...and he's a boy!

Thanks Shawnn! Thanks both you and Jodi for your answer. I really appreciated it. She is now down to a normal sized suitcase. It is different from a HUGE suitcase and a normal suitcase. I have no idea how she did it!

Yea I will tell her that. If she wants to bring more luggage she is paying for it:-) LOL

LOL, I was about to suggest exactly what Shawnn suggested. She can pay for the excess baggage!

Thanks for your answer Shawnn. I will tell her that. Since she doesn't know we are going to London and we are going to treat them a bit I will tell her she will get some new shirts while we are there.

Show her how much she'll be charged for baggage fees for the extras! Simple enough. Or, have her pack it all, and tell her that if she can hike 5 miles whilst dragging all of her crap, then she can take it, provided she pays for the extra fees.
