Has anyone moved from Michigan to East Tn recently? If so are you having a hard time connecting to people in this area?

Hi Dawn:

My daughter and I moved from one community in SO California to another, much smaller community. I did feel a bit isolated at the time, but in taking our dog for a walk, I met neighbors to chat with, one who actually attended the same church we did. I also volunteered at church on Saturday for a few hours. You can also check with your community park and recreation department for a women's group. Some churches have women's support groups that lead into friendships. If you like to read, join a reading group at your local library. They usually get together once or twice a month to talk over the common book they are reading, break for a light snack and a little social time. If you like to sew, some fabric stores (Joann's here in So Cal) have classes you can join (you do have to pay a small fee, but the contacts are great!) Scrapbooking clubs also congregate at local scrapbook stores and some have a 'midnight madness' all night session every other month or so. Check in your area phone book for other volunteer opportunities (local hospital, food bank, senior center, library). I'm sorry I'm not familiar with East TN, so I don't know exactly what is available, but these are some generic ideas that may help. If you have kids, a great way is through the PTA, everyone wants the best for their kids. I hope one or more of these suggestions will help.
