I am sorry. My son is a biter and my brother is too. So what I was trying to accomplish was the conscious recognition of the act. I am smoker so I very well know about the "fixation" to some is a habit. It is not appealing and can be stopped. The want to stop and putting in the effort is what is important. Also having a reason to stop is necessary. Thank you and again I wasn't trying to be harsh.

Yes! I am glad you finally realized what your doing and then stopped all on your own. That is really the only way. For some people being hungry is sometimes the initial reaction to being hungry. Not all. So just realizing the action and consciously making an effort to stop. Thank you for clarifying that cause we do care.

As a former nail bitter myself, I have to agree with Raye. It is not as easy to stop as it sounds. I too tried many things but eventually I just knew I had to stop. My nails and fingers were a mess and they looked terrible. Robin apparently you have never been or know a nail bitter because you were a little harsh. Yes it is a disgusting because our fingers are full of germs but it is a fixation and it takes time and a lot of self control to stop.

Robin, people don't bite their nails because they're hungry. It's an oral fixation like chewing on pens, straws, toothpicks, and even smoking (although smoking has other addictive qualities).

I used to bite my nails, and I tried putting that nasty tasting stuff on them to try to get me to stop. But that didn't work. I just decided to stop. I replaced chewing them with making sure they were clean and trimmed. Occasionally, if I get a hang-nail I will still chew, but for the most part I don't do it anymore.

Hello,
Alright I know you want to bite chew on those stub nails. It may be Sharpe or has grown just barley enough to get a grip on it and just bit. Well let me tell you what you are doing. Your filthy dirty nasty hands going into your mouth and this can cause your teeth to become crooked if not already also can create canker soars. I also hate the way I look when I bite my nails. Have you ever watched your self chopping on your fingers and then start chewing on it. Go ask someone for food. YOUR HUNGRY... you can also do little things like start peeling an orange. So have it your way if you let Them grown a little and you want to trim them get some clippers trim them down but what ever you do, don't subconsciously bite your nails. Recognize your doing it then stop. :) goodday
