We lost mom 4 years ago, my brother was 12 and I was 23 then. We have a very careless dad and a sister a year younger than me. Since I got married and moved out to a different country, I can't be next to them every day.

He's a teenager now and he is a horrible one. He transferred from the school for gifted kids that he was going to to a regular public school. Then he just stopped going to classes. Then he started smoking and drinking and coming home at 4am. And when we would ask where he got the money, he'd say he won it at some soccer lottery game. Dad can't control him and can't put rules on him, he doesn't listen to my sister either.

So today my sister is checking her wallet and sees that 700$ is missing and my brother has recently bought a new phone. She asked him if he stole the money and he swears that he didn't and that he bought the phone with the money he won and that its a used, cheap phone.

I'm pregnant now and it's so stressful to deal with all these from far away. I don't know what to do. He started stealing now? Why has he become such a terrible person?! We tried to support him and be loving, I brougt him to the U.S. for summer break, we always buy him best of everything, but he turned out such a terrible person. I just want to cry. What do I do?? Has anyone had any experience with such teens? I feel like there's absolutely nothing I can do. And it sucks... :(((

Sarah, I live in southeastern Michigan. What is your estimation of your father's inability to parent your brother?

Your father is worse that careless --any father who would let his family situation get anything even approaching this far out of control hasn't a clue how to parent.
