How would you all deal with a 17 yo who hasn't worked long and has no car who wants to move out on their 18th bday. She claims 3 of her friends moms, (the type of mom who are their daughter's friends), have agreed to let her stay with them untill she can move out and pay bills. Our daughter does not buy her own toiletries and needs a ride everywhere. She seems to think they will drive her around from their house.

I hate to break it to you, but the day she turns 18, if she wants to pack up and move out, she's legally an adult, and able to do so!

If she thinks that her friend's parents will enjoy stepping in and buying her things, and running her around, then she'll either learn the hard way that they won't, or will learn that they will.

I know it sounds harsh, but it's reality. You know, and I know that she's not ready to do that, but she has to learn on her own. It took my son about a week of being "on his own" at his friends house after he turned 18 to realize that he did NOT have the necessary bank account, etc, needed to survive as an adult on his own. He apologized for being an ass, and he's back home, paying slight room and board, and contributing to the household while he saves to afford his own place.
