Letting my daughter wear my glasses for school and homework?

My daughter is studying for her school tests and examinations. She has recently informed me of blurred vision whilst revising notes and textbooks, and has asked to use a pair of my old reading glasses while she studies. I've been letting her use them for a while, and she says they help her at school. I can't afford to take her to the optometrist and buy her glasses, so would it be okay for her to continue like this for a while?

Eyesight is a valuable sense that needs to be protected. Sure the "short term fix" may get her thru exams, but if she's truly having vision issues, you need to have her examined so that the proper fix may be done.

Check into income assistance programs in your area. I've been low income for most of my children's youth, but we still had to find a way to get them into glasses.

Eye problems do not just necessarily end with the eyes either. The eyes can indicate problems in other areas of the body.

I think this could become a heated debate. First let me be perfectly clear, I do not have nor have I ever had any medical training. I am only stating this by my own personal experience. If your daughter has trouble with reading and not with distance I would go to Walmart/ Walgreens type place and have her try on the over the counter reading glasses and find the most comfortable pair for her. It is more affordable in the short term. But only works for reading not distance. Also...she is a teenager and can tell the difference right? In the meantime look into cheap or free clinics for eye exams. The school might have more information. If she wears the wrong prescription it can make her eyes worse much quicker than you think. I learned that the hard way as a teen myself. Good luck.
