This happened 6 days ago. He was on life support for 2 days and as soon as he was able to walk on his own the 3rd day they transported him to the Behavior Health Hall. 3 days later (today) he says he has been told he'll be able to go home later this week.
There is nothing we can do to stop this because he's an adult, 18. However, we're responsible to take him back into our home, provide medical insurance, etc. until he's 19. Technically he can even sign himself out.
My 2 year old daughter and I discovered my son unconscious, his body flopping all over the floor while blood and pills just poured from his mouth. Now, less than a week later he says "I'm all better, they fixed the behavior, I'm coming home."
I can't go for an hour without flashbacks making me sob. I just don't know what to do. HELP!?!?

Update: my son refuses any counseling or psychiatric help. He's stopped taking his meds and has moved out. All I can do is hope and pray he'll be ok this time.

He is bisexual but not hiding it. He was in love with a girl from the internet and she broke me his heart. That's what he left in the suicide note

Might he be gay and not be able to come out? A disproportionate amount of suicides are from gay teens. Just a thought...

My 18 year old son tried to commit suicide in front of me. He took a handful of pills. I called 911. They kept him in the hospital for 2 days. Then 5 days later he was talking nonstop about killing himself for almost 12 hours. I called 911 again. He stayed in the hospital for 1 day. They can't keep him any longer than that. He's been like this for 2 months. I haven't worked for 2 months. I'm terrified to leave him alone for too long. He refuses medication and refuses to continue with therapy. He's now telling me to allow him to die. I'm at my wits end! Help!

Alisa, while I haven't been through something this severe, I know how it feels to have to stand by while you watch your "adult" child self destruct. Nothing ever prepares us for the overwhelming heartache this brings. Get YOURSELF some counselling ASAP. If nothing else it will help you come up with a plan to stay strong for yourself, your son and your baby. This ride is probably not over yet. Keep posting. I'm here if you just need to vent. *hugs*
