My daughter gave herself a piercing!

The other day i noticed an earring in my daughters nose. I insisted on having a closer look and she admitted she had given herself a septum (between the nostrils) piercing when she was 10 (she is 13 now) and if she took it out it wouldn't close up. I am shocked and a bit outraged that she would do this to herself i also have no idea for a concequnce for her as it would not close up any time soon. Any ideas are welcome.

I'm wondering, first of all, how you didn't notice something when she supposedly did it at the age of 10?

Consequences: Grounding, removal of phone and internet privileges (except for supervised homework), and perhaps volunteering somewhere where she can see what the results of home piercings could be (infections, etc), or maybe take her to a piercing parlor where they have wonderful pretty pictures of what an infected piercing looks like.

Have her sign an agreement with you that you can post somewhere in the house that her next piercing has to have parental permission and be done in a sterile environment.

I would still make her take the earring out. It might not close up right away, but it would be a lot less noticeable than the earring. And if people see the hole, well it's her own fault. When she's older she can put it back in if the hole hasn't closed. How in heaven's name did she manage to hide this for so long? And what 10 year old would want to do that? ha ha. I don't know that there's much to do, besides forbidding her from any piercings from here on. And making her take it out anyway. It is her body, but she's too young to be making decisions like that. And talk to her about how dangerous it is to do piercings on her own at home. She could get a serious infection.
