My son will turn 18 at the end of May. He will graduate High School the beginning of June and then leave for Bootcamp 2 days after graduation. My intentions are to throw a going away party for him but I haven't been able to come up with a venue yet. I want to find someplace that 18 year old boys and girls will think is cool. I am so sad and have been having trouble sleeping with thoughts of him going away. He is my only child. I am very proud of him and he made his intentions known when he was 12 years old so I can't claim to be surprised.

My suggestion is get his friends involved. I am sure they are going to miss him too and would love to help plan a party. If there are close friends or even others going to bootcamp after graduation you can combine efforts to make it a big party and find other parents to help keep you company. I wish you and your family the best. And thank your son for his commitment to our country.

Thanks a million for your suggestions. I never thought to involve his friends and its a GREAT idea. I will ask my son if he knows of any other kids going to boot at the same time as him. Thank you for your support and kindness.
