My son is 15 years old in the 9th grade. His birthday is late so he hasn't failed yet. We live in Cobb county GA. He's very smart and slacks when he wants. He is definitely a crammer. The courses he likes he has A's in them, but the ones he doesn't care for he's FAILING with flying F's. I have given up with trying to be that gap for him and make it right. I don't know what to do at this point. I don't know if I should take him out and do night school or just take him out completely. But if I took him out he would miss graduations, proms, ETC...PLEASE HELP!! He only pays attention to his phone, the T.V., or just nothing. I have taken things away and all, nothing works with him. He's very passive. Nothing hardly bothers him. We have to remind him of his chores. If he doesn't get on the right track soon he's not gonna make it in the real world with so much responsibilities before him.

Hello C A. Sorry to hear about the problems with your son. My boy went through a similar phase, as I'm sure most teens do. What classes is he having trouble with? There are tutoring services you can use to help with the grades. As far as his attitude at home and not doing chores, you just need to find a better way to motivate him. I found that negative motivations (spanking, grounding, taking away devices) never helped and actually made things worse. You don't need to go to the extreme measures that I went tried, but give POSITIVE motivations a chance. Tell him if he will apply himself around the house and do his chores and interact with the family more that you will give him _______. Whatever you think will motivate him. Cash, games, vacation, etc. It's a small price to pay for getting your son back. Feel free to message me privately. Good luck.
