Please help a desperate mom help her 18 year old son?

My 18 year son has been through many transitions over the last 3 months. He is an amazing athlete all though out school- he even was a Maine McDonald's All Star for basketball; school always came easy to him; Graduated high school; before leaving for college he and his beautiful, sweet, kind girlfriend decide to call off their 1 1/2 year relationship due to going to different colleges (they were really good for each other), Left a small community to go to a big city college because he was recruited by this particular basketball coach. The coach set him up with athletic trainers, took him out to supper, made my son very much a part of the team. A month later, day five of the try outs, my son was cut from the team. Humiliated and lost because he always played sports, ever since preschool, he began partying a lot more than usual; really getting into the marijuana scene. This started about 6 weeks ago. Within those 6 weeks he began selling Marijuana. Mind you, his father and I did not raise him like this and he has never been in trouble for anything (well, besides detentions for talking to much in class or something silly like that) He started selling a bit more than he could handle. He left his back pack in a common area of the dorms. A dorm counselor was doing her rounds found the back pack, in it there was a batman note book with a description of different kinds of marijuana and how much he had sold and money he made/owed. This was grounds to search his room. There were two empty mason jars that had a strong odor of marijuana BUT NO marijuana was ever found. Anyway, he was asked to leave the dorms- BUT not the school; however he cannot commute because we live to way too far away. He has been a home for less than a week. He was such a happy go lucky young man who is not smoking noon till night, and angry. Every time I talk to him he gets defensive and angry- no matter what I say. He does listen to dad a bit better... But, Please- any advice would be so helpful. I am lost too, and need some encouraging words to spread to him!

So sorry he is going through all of this. Only one thing I can think of can truly help permanently, and that is Jesus Christ. He is the only one who can fill up that empty spot inside his heart. If you can get a Bible, I recommend a King James Version and reading the book of John. Read it as TRUTH, not just a story. Study who Jesus is and ask yourselves some questions, like how does this truth apply to me? Pray to God through the Lord Jesus Christ, and ask him to help you and your son. Do this with him if you can. I will be praying. God has the answers for you.
