Should a 16 year old take on a part time job after school-Junio in HS, I'm worried that it might be too much of a load?

My eldest had a part time job from the time he was 14, in addition to volunteering 20 hours per week at the same age. Each kid is different. if he can keep up his studies, and keep up a good work ethic, then it's not too much. If he starts to struggle with school, then it is too much and he needs to cut back

My 15 year old has a part time job. He works 4 hours after school on Tuesdays, 4 hours after school on Fridays, and all day Saturday. He still has time to do school work, sports and see his friends 4 nights a week and on Sundays. So far he is coping with it fine, but if I see he isn't, I will be suggesting he drop one of his shifts. I do believe, however, that it is good for kids to have a job of some sort. It teaches responsibility, both for personal and financial.
