My daughter is 14 and is just about to finish year 9 by the end of this year. She is a classical ballet dancer and is dreaming of doing it proffesionally, she wants to go to a boarding academy for fulltime academics and ballet in a international school in another country! she wants to do her last 2 years of schooling (11 and 12) at boarding school but im not sure what to think about it. She will be around 16 by then. Apparently ballet boarding academys are very tough and stressful. Also the educational differences are tremendous. What are your opinions?

I was presented with a similar proposition when my daughter was 12/ 13 years old. She wanted to go to boarding school 3000 miles away from home. It was a huge gamble, but I decided to allow her to apply. Unfortunately, she didn't get accepted, but she truly appreciated that I was willing to support her in her dreams. It has made our relationship even stronger. I would tell you to write down the pros and cons, then weigh which one is better; it's really what I did. I decided that the opportunity that the school could offer her was much bigger than I could provide her myself. I trusted the morals I gave her and believe she would have made mistakes, but she also would have succeeded. This world is theirs; if we offer it to them properly. Use your "mommy intuition" to make the best decision for your daughter. Good luck.
