My son is 17 and has had a girlfriend now for the last year. Over the pass few months they have stopped hanging out at our home. I have over heard her say things to him about standing to your parents and demand the use of the car. She is very spoil and talks down to her mother regularly, I have seen this first hand. Now her parents have started buying my son gifts and are constantly taking him out to restaurant. I am losing my son and I have no idea what to do to try and resolve the issue.

I'm so sorry that you're feeling this way, Christine! It's so hard when they get older and start making choices that don't coincide with your families beliefs and values. Let me ask a few questions- How old is the girlfriend? Have you talked with your son about how the situation is making you feel? As for the other parents, that may just be there way of welcoming him to the relationship. I know when my son has a girlfriend, we make it a point to get to know her and sometimes that means buying gifts or dinner. It's just our way of staying connected to him and their relationship. What about finding a way to connect with her? Maybe that would help relieve some of the tension! I'm here to talk if you want!
