My 14 year old son hid a video camera in his sister's room (she's 11). She saw it before anything inappropriate was taped. My husband and I are mortified. After a discussion, he confessed it was because he wanted to see a girl's body. I don't want to over react, but I also don't want to under react. When I was young, boys his age usually managed to get their hands on a Playboy magazine - but we don't have any of those around. We have parental controls on the computer so that is off limits.

He said this is the first time he's ever done this. I explained to my daughter that he was curious about what a girl looked like, but that it was very wrong to do that to her. I am really bothered by this.

We've explained that aside from an invasion of privacy, it is illegal. He was very remorseful - cried, apologized to us and his sister. He had a special event this weekend that he was looking forward to, but we have said he cannot go and will be doing loads of yard work instead.

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? Would love to hear some feedback/suggestions. Thank you.

You handled it well, up to and including the pulling the special event privilege.

You handled the talk well, making sure he knew that this type of action could be punishable by law, and that he'd be in legal trouble.

All in all, well done, my dear. Now, your husband (and you if you're comfortable with it) do need to have a very serious, frank discussion about the natural urges he's getting and how to handle them.
