Teen age boy went from failing to A's and Bs

My son is now 16. Since 6th grade, he has done everything to fail english and didn't care about going to school. He didn't believe he had to go through the program. Handing in homework, notes, disruptive in class, being thrown out of school, etc. He had D's and F's.

Over the summer, he worked with a gentleman who helped him understand the importance of a good education. Ex: Girls like intelligent men, Girls like active men who go to work and make a good living, girls like men who go to college. They love to be respected. Communication is the key to being happy. He grew up under his guidance and wthin three months, he was a changed boy.

He wanted to impress his girlfriend, this gentleman and his parents. He came home with three A's, 4 B's.

Sometimes they need guidance by someone other than their parents. Never stop being a parent, but accept help from others.

It truly takes a village! Kudos on being the pro-active parent then. How is your son doing now at 21?

So sounds like my son except that we haven't gotten to the good part yet. He's been failing for about a year and a half and doesn't seem to care. We have finally found someone he is slowly opening up to so I'll stay hopeful.

That is Great! there is nothing more inportant than them getting a education. It is the key to survial. Very cool to here about how people reach their kids in this struggle. My approach was a bit the same with pointing out the pros to being a smart girl who never gives up v  the slacker ditz that does nothing. And without the support of the ones I inlisted to help me she would not be graduating this year.

That is so cool, My daughter is failing everything in school right now, I have talked to everyone that I can think of, friends, family, counselors, teachers, doctors, everyone, but haven't found the right one to help. I am happy for you, it gives me hope that I will find that right person that can get through to her. Thank You!
