Ick! I hate those things. But the truth is, those stretched holes can be trimmed off by a cosmetic surgeon when she decides she doesn't want them any more.

Sometimes teens want something like that just as a way to prove that you aren't the boss of them. If you think that's the case, you may be better off letting her think you don't really mind either way. Rebellion loses its fun when you won't fight back.

Thirteen is young, though. You might have luck telling her that while you have no particular problem with stretched ears, because it is so permanent, you feel like she should be (pick an age) years old before she decides to get it done. Tell her that for that birthday, you will take her to get it done and buy her choice of those weird, stretchy earrings to wear.

Choose an age similar to what you might say if she was asking for a tattoo. If you are really lucky, her interest will fade before that birthday rolls around.

She's too young. Let her wait until she's an adult to decide if she wants to do it. I have no idea how anyone with ears like that can ever look normal again. I know people like it and I don't have a problem with it, but 13 is too young!
