My son has barely made it to his Junior year in High School. He has no interest in making good grades or studying and has a really bad attitude about any conversation about school.

I would say search in your immediate area for tutoring services...They're all over now. Or, if you have a local college, you could check to see if any students would be interested in tutoring for some extra cash.

Well, we go to orientation in the morning, other than an art in animation class, his schedule is all academic. To acheive success he will have to dedicate himself to the completion of homework and to listening in class. Does anyone use a tutor? Is there one anyone can recommend?

And if it is so difficult to monitor his vid time, you take the cords with you! Problem solved. He gets video when he's taken care of his responsibilities.

It will be tough for you at first though, because you have kind of let it get to this point, and he's going to argue, scream, bitch, moan, groan, curse, and probably be very disrespectful, but you need to stick to your guns here.

Good luck! You can do this!

How do you get a child's IQ tested? As for his friends, they are local boys with nice parents, but, it seems that their interests are the same as my son's, video games.
Being a single parent is difficult, I work and go to school. It's difficult to monitor his video game time, he has made it more than difficult to oversee his homework and with the new year starting, I am reaching out to any other single parents; How can I establish better study habits in my son?

Do you have an idea what his IQ is? Is it possible that he is bored. I have read that gifted teenage boys need to find their "passion" - something that they love - in order to be happy enough to focus on everything else. That was true for my son, who was angry and aimless in 7th grade until he got totally jazzed about music (in jazz band). Also, what kind of kids are his friends - could it be that he is being influenced by pals who don't study either...
