Whoa! I\'ve been in the process of moving from one state to another and lo and behold when I return to the community here we\'re up to a membership of 4,567!\r\nWelcome one and all!\r\nI look forward to getting to know everyone and a lively discussion about being our childrens best advocate. I hope that we can support one another in the challenging position as Moms of gifted children.\r\nHappy New Year!\r\n\r\nSamantha Hall\r\nAdministrator to Circle of Moms - Moms of the Highly Gifted

Hi Ladies, I have been a member for a while, and just never wrote anything.  It will be nice to get some really good discussions going about gifted students.  I have four kids....all girls, and so far, only one has been 'labeled' gifted.   The youngest two are not even in school yet, so they haven't officially been tested.  My 11 year old is the 'labeled' one, and she just took the ACT/Discovery Test (through Northwestern University here in Chicago) last month.  So we are eagerly awaiting the results to show/tell us how "gifted" she truly is.  My 9 year old hasn't shown any signs of giftedness, and seems to be happy just being a normal student.  She is about as middle of the road as you could get, which seems strangely odd for us. The 4 year old is much endowed, and is showing all of the same tendencies as our oldest daughter, so I'm sure we are in for many more evaluations in the future.  And finally our 2 year old;  She is a problem solver, and crafty to say the least, but how much of that is because she has four older siblings to learn from, and how much is because she is showing signs of giftedness.  Only time will tell.

My question for all of you is this; My 11 year old, while gifted and just too smart for her own good...is getting "C's" and "D's" in several of her subjects.  She, fortunately, has been placed in the highest grouping the school has for reading, math and science, but just doesn't do the daily work.  Basically, she doesn't do...or hand in the daily assignments, but then gets A's on the tests.  She is also reading at an eleventh grade level (according to standardized tests), and it has been terribly hard to find books of her reading level, with age approprate content. Our latest battle with reading is the will read anything she gets her hands on, but will not (no matter how much Mom pressures) fill out the teacher required reading logs.  It's maddening to a point.  Oh, and did I mention the messy, beyond comparison bedroom?  Are there any Moms out there with ideas or solutions?

Smiles,

Toni

I was wondering if anyone out there has any advice about finding scholarships for summer camps for gifted students.  Where to find them?  or How to get them?

thanks.

Linda
