It hurt so bad getting it put in. They told me it was because I had a c-section with my son. I loved it after that for a while. It kinda hurt being intimate, and my hubby could feel the strings sometimes. I also went from being 102 lbs to being 130lbs over the course of a year. I couldn't think of anything else that would've caused the weight gain. I had it removed January 15th, so we can TTC. have already lost 6 lbs. I needed to gain a little weight, but geez, going from teeny, tiny to gaining almost 30 lbs was a bit much on my small frame. I will NOT get mirena again!

Hi, i'm sarah and i had it placed in my arm 6 months before i got married. At about the 2.5 year mark i took it out (not litterally :)) and fell pregnant immediately. When the 8 weeks had passed after Chloe was born i had another one placed in. I kept it in for about 1.5 years. It didn't interfere with my breast feeding and once again, the second i was off it i ovulated and fell preganant immdiatly with this one. I think they are great, i didn't get my period on it, but it does just depend on your body. My sister tried it but had to have it removed because she got depression and beld continuosly. :) Hope this helps :)

I agree with several of the comments already made, it sounds like a good idea but it didn't work for me. I had my mirena for a year and a half. I HATED it! It caused weight gain (after loosing all of my baby weight), I became very moody and depressed, and I overall just felt like crud. I had it removed last September and immediately got pregnant. After 6 weeks of pregnancy, I had a miscarriage. The OB/GYN said it "could" have been because of the mirena. I am with Sheri Paul, if you want to try it do. Every woman's body is different.

I didn't have a period for the entire two years I was on it which caused me to get cysts on my ovaries that were more and more painful. When we decided to have our second child and took it out it took almost a full year for me to feel normal again because it messed up my hormones and it also took us 15 months to get pregnant. :( I am not sure if we are going to use it again after this baby is born, but I do have to weight the ease of use versus the discomfort in the end.

I really liked it after I had my first daughter. I loved not having a period and not having to remember to take a pill every day. I didn't notice the drastic mood swings that I had when I took the pill. I will be getting it again after I have my second daughter. Everyone's body is different though! You have to find out what works best for you--I think that's why there are so many different options avaliable!

I love Mirena when I was on it. I felt no pain and had no period. After I have my #2 child I am going back on it. It was the best. Every person is different that goes on it. It all depends on your body and how your body takes it. I would say try it. If you do not like it they will remove it and try you on something new.

I had a horrible experience with mirena, but I know others who love it. I had a lot of pain after it was inserted, and my partner could actually feel the strings while we were intimate. I had them shortened several times, until the couldn't shorten them anymore. So after 8 months I was still having horrible cramping pain constantly, and decided to get it removed. Well that didn't go smoothly either. She had cut the strings so short she couldn't get them normally. She thought I might need it surgically removed, but she tried getting it with an ultrasound and a longer and wider tool. It was very uncomfortable, but she got it!

I had the Mirena for a little over a year and the only side effect that got me was mood swings when it was time for my period. Other than that, I loved it. I never had to think about it. After we had it removed, it took 3 months to conceive #2 (if you're planning on having more kiddos in the future). Good luck with your decision!

I had it for just over year and won't ever get it again. I would get weird pains in my abdomen and every month I would go through all the symptoms of being pregnant. The nice thing about it was that I only got my period once or twice. Once I had it taken out though I felt like a whole new person. I felt great!

But like Whitney said, I know many women that have it right now and don't have any problems with it at all. So I guess it completely depends on the person...

Oh my goodness, I had the worst experience with it!! I thought it would be like..the best solution.

The first time they inserted it it turned sideways and was ineffective. I was in a lot of pain.

The second time (yes, I was stupid enough to try again because the benefits were so alluring) it went into the lining of my uterus (trying to turn sideways again) and they had to remove it semi-surgically.

Mind you, so many women have used it and loved it. The doctors told me I was a very rare case as far as complications so I was not so fortunate. I never got to experience the benefits of it. But if it helps, actually getting it inserted is not as uncomfortable as it sounds when they describe the process! Not anymore uncomfortable going in as a pelvic exam, some cramping afterwards but I went back to work the first time after getting it inserted.
