Any ideas for family activities that the tween will pariticpate in?

I get that the tween is all about her friends and social networking with the computer, etc. But, we are losing precious family time with texts, MySpace, Facebook, etc. She wants to be with her friends and I would still like to be with her, most of the time.

I could use some ideas ladies.

I have a 12 yr old daughter and I know exactly what u r talking about. She got a beading kit for her birthday and we have both taken up this extremely relaxing and fun hobby. I even get the 2 younger sisters to join in. We also love dancing, just the four of us. I get her to help out in the kitchen everyday, and during this time I get to ask all sorts of questions about her day cos she will never tell me anything in front of her dad:) Another great thing to do with girls, is bath with them.

Set times of the day or night that the electronics are off. Not just on vibrate but OFF. It could be an hour for dinner or a couple of hours for a family activity, even just watching a movie. Once that distraction is out of the picture they should come around and enjoy the family time. Also ask them what they'd like to do as a family. Letting them take part in the planning will encourage their participation.

I might be old fashion, but i believe in dinner time together! ahe is not aloud to stay gone all hrs of the day and night till curfew. u just have to figure a schedule that works and make her stick with it...she hates it but thats just the way it goes....sundays kids dont do nothing we try to make thatr a family day weather its catching up on housework, watching movies, and as far as internet goes theres a limit always!

Each of my kids have a tv night, one night a week they get to stay up a bit later with us to watch a show. Ie last night was my tweens night, she watchs Heroes. My sons night is thrusday night and he watchs Survivor with us. They both love it cause it makes them feel like they are "growing up", and count down the days to when they get to stay up with the adults, and they get alone time with me and my husband.

How about Family game night ( Wii, or Board games) we play them on Saturday night. Have a dinner that they like . You could make cookies. Maybe even invite one friend over to join in the fun.
