Having a mom with TN....

I know this is a website for moms to discuses their struggles with chronic pain, but it also seemed like a really good place for me to reach out to moms that have been diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia like my mom has.

My mom was diagnosed 2 years ago. The first year was the hardest, as my mom spent months just trying to figure out why she was in so much pain. She was operated on at the University of Penn last April and was pain free until this past December.
In December her pains came back, and her neurologist at Penn said it was likely the TN had resurfaced.
My family was extremely devastated. This chronic illness has put a strain on not only my mother, but my whole family.
She is in the middle of trying to contact other specialists to try a different medication (currently very high dose of tegratol and is not happy with it) or just to talk to someone outside of Penn.

Its hard for me to know what kinds of things to say to make my mom feel better when she has had a bad pain day. I have seen her extremely discouraged and depressed by it, and I find it hard to console her.
What does your family do for you guys that makes you feel better?
I am really just looking to give my mom a little bit of strength, so any suggestions would be appreciated!
