Thank you Sara and all the other mom's that responded with helpful advice. The funny thing is Kelly, i work in Surgery in the OR and had talked to many people about what to do before I asked this question on here. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't any other advice from mothers before making a trip to the Dr.'s office. I got into to see one of our ENT Dr.'s the next day and she said that he had torn his frenlum (that's the member between the upper gum and upper lip Kelly) and that the swelling would go down in a few days and that there is NOTHING to worry about! She said he would of need it cut eventually and that this was a blessing in descise. Thanks again to the mothers that want to help other mothers on here!

Quoting Kelly:

Why would you bring something like this to facebook first for advice? Call a doctor, it is your child! This is only a simple social networking website, not an emergency medical respondent. No offense, but it strikes me as odd.

maybe she's a rookie mom and doesn't want to be one of those other rookie mom's that take their kid to the ER daily for no good reason and just wanted advice?

are there any ways to put pics up on here? if I saw a pic I could probably respond better but do what YOU think is best. Also I wanted to add, if you need other advice there is another website I am on called cafemom.com you can ask advice and post pictures there and get fast responses. unfortunately some will respond like Kelly, but that's alright. Asking for advice is better than not caring ;)

my son fell over and his bottom teeth hit his top gum, i rang NHS direct up and they told me as long as the bleeding stops its not an emergency and he can be seen the next day, because its just baby teeth dentists dont seem that worried because they lose them later on anyway. he may need antibiotics just to make sure it dont get infected but if your worred take him to hospital straight away. even if its just for your peace of mind

Call your local ER and see if they think he needs to be seen tonight or if you can wait until morning and take him to his pediatrician.  My daughter caught her bottom teeth on a coffee table at 10 months and loosened them...mouth injuries at this age need to be checked out pretty quickly.
