I've honestly never really thought much about it, but my baby sitter keeps mentioning it. My Daughter has been strictly on solid foods since 11/12 months. Fruits make her have diarrhea, which is understandable. But, even when she doesn't have fruit she still doesn't have a solid poop. It is always very loose, but not as watery as diarrhea. By 17 Months you would think that she would have had a solid poop by now, but I'm also glad she is not constipated. Should I be concerned that there is some underlying reason for this?

My daughter had the opposite problem. She would go a couple of days and then have a firmer poop. When I asked my pediatrician, she assured me that if it isn't "squirting" out they don't usually worry about it. Some babies have harder stools, but if they are making bowel movements then they are not constipated and some babies have softer stools, but if they are not watery then no worries. talk to your pediatrician, but i wouldn't worry. my son is a lot like your baby. usually softer stools. I only remember a few times that he has had a "solid" poop. Usually diarrhea (which according to my dr. is WATERY) is when you should worry. just about ANYTHING else is normal.

if you want you can ask your pediatrician. they might want you to take a cup home for a sterile sample then bring it back on a follow up appt.

i would suggest more foods high in fiber and iron.
