I just had an ultra sound to see if we could tell the sex. I am 17 weeks, 5 days. She took measurements and said that the baby is healthy but what she can see is "limited." She wants to see me in two weeks because as of right now, the gender looks too much like both! I know that this may sound silly but this is my first baby and from everything I've read, we should be able to see what sex the baby is at this point. Should I be worried?

The baby has a definite sex by 17 weeks, but the parts are so small and not developed enough to be able to tell with an unltrasound. We were told at 19 weeks 4 days. Typically, you aren't given the sex until 20 weeks or after because thats when you can see with a regular ultrasound. Dont worry, you'll know soon enough and the weeks will fly by. Your baby will be here before you know it :)

Most of the time they don't try and see the sex until at least 20 weeks for that reason. Here we have our measuring scan at 20 weeks to make sure everything is growing properly. You've had yours too early.
